Important Safety Instructions

When using pressure cookers, basic safety precautions should always be followed:

  • Read all instructions thoroughly before operating the appliance.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
  • Do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.
  • Exercise extreme caution when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker for purposes other than intended.
  • This appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Ensure unit is properly closed before operating.
  • Never force open a pressure cooker. Ensure the internal pressure is completely released before opening.
  • Do not fill the unit more than two-thirds full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit more than half full.
  • Ensure the pressure valve and safety devices are clear before use.
  • Use only Fissler original spare parts.

Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for storage or transport if needed.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash all parts (pot, lid, insert, tripod) with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The pressure cooker and skillet are dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for the lid gasket to prolong its life.
  3. Lid Assembly: Ensure the sealing ring (gasket) is correctly seated inside the lid. The handle should be securely attached.
  4. Familiarization: Practice opening and closing the lid without food. The handle automatically locks with an audible click and a color display in the handle indicates a secure closure.

Operating Instructions

1. Preparing for Pressure Cooking

  • Add Ingredients: Place food and the required amount of liquid into the pressure cooker or skillet. Do not exceed the maximum fill lines (2/3 full for most foods, 1/2 full for expanding foods).
  • Close the Lid: Align the lid with the pot and slide the handle until it clicks into place. The color display on the handle will confirm secure closure.
  • Heat Source: Place the pressure cooker on a suitable stovetop burner. The units are compatible with all stovetops, including induction.

2. Building Pressure

  • Turn the heat to high. The cooking indicator on the lid will begin to rise.
  • The vitaquick system uses two convenient markings:
    • First Ring (Gentle Cooking): For delicate foods.
    • Second Ring (Speed Cooking): For faster cooking of most foods.
  • Once the desired ring is visible, reduce the heat to maintain that pressure level. Cooking time begins now.

3. Releasing Pressure

  • Natural Release: Remove the pressure cooker from the heat and allow it to cool naturally. The pressure indicator will slowly drop. This method is ideal for foods that benefit from a longer cooking time or for preventing foaming.
  • Quick Release: For faster pressure release, carefully place the pressure cooker under cold running water, avoiding the lid's valve area, or use the steam release function if available on your model. Ensure the pressure indicator has fully dropped before attempting to open the lid.

4. Opening the Lid

  • Only open the lid when the pressure indicator has completely dropped and no steam is escaping.
  • Slide the handle to unlock the lid and carefully lift it away from you to avoid residual steam.

5. Using the Skillet with Novogrill Bottom

The 4.2 Qt. pressure skillet features a patented novogrill bottom, a unique honeycomb texture perfect for low-oil grilling, searing, and frying. This allows for healthy indoor grilling. Use it like a regular frying pan for browning meats or vegetables before pressure cooking, or as a standalone skillet with the glass lid.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Dishwasher Safe: The stainless steel pots and skillet are dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
  • Lid Cleaning: The lid, especially the sealing ring and main control valve, requires careful cleaning.
    • Remove the sealing ring from the lid after each use and wash it separately with warm soapy water. Ensure it is completely dry before reinserting.
    • Rinse the maintenance-free main control valve under running water to clear any food particles. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp objects on the valve.
    • The lid itself can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
  • Storage: Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted or slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Fissler vitaquick pressure cooker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Pressure Not Building or Steam Leaking:
    • Ensure the lid is properly closed and locked. The handle should click, and the color indicator should confirm closure.
    • Check the sealing ring (gasket) for proper placement, damage, or wear. Replace if necessary.
    • Verify that the main control valve and other safety valves are clean and free of food debris.
    • Ensure there is sufficient liquid in the pot to generate steam.
  • Lid Difficult to Open:
    • Do not force the lid. Ensure all internal pressure has been released. The pressure indicator must be fully lowered.
    • If the indicator is stuck, gently tap the lid or cool the pot under cold water (avoiding the valve) to ensure complete depressurization.
  • Food Not Cooking Properly:
    • Confirm that the correct pressure level (first or second ring) was maintained for the recommended cooking time.
    • Ensure the heat source was adequate to reach and maintain pressure.
