1. Introduction and Overview
The Intermec PM43 and PM43c are mid-range industrial label printers designed for reliable performance in various environments. These printers feature a tamper-proof, 10-language color touch-screen or universal-icon interface, aiming to reduce workforce training and support requirements. As a third-generation Intermec industrial printer, the PM43 series is engineered for maximum uptime, offering quick deployment, fast print speeds, and proven reliability for label printing applications.

2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the printer. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the equipment.
- Always connect the printer to a grounded power outlet.
- Do not operate the printer with damaged power cords or plugs.
- Keep hands and loose clothing away from moving parts during operation.
- Avoid touching the printhead immediately after printing, as it can be hot.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the printer.
- Use only approved media and ribbons to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the printer from its packaging. Place the printer on a stable, level surface with adequate space for media loading and access to power and data ports.
3.2 Connecting Power and Data Cables
Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet. For data communication, connect a USB cable to the printer's USB port and your computer, or an Ethernet cable to the printer's Ethernet port and your network.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Powering On and Initializing
Press the power button to turn on the printer. The printer will perform a self-test and initialize. The color touch-screen or universal-icon interface will display the ready status.
4.2 Navigating the User Interface
Use the touch-screen or keypad to navigate through the printer's menus. Common functions include print settings, media calibration, and network configuration. Refer to the on-screen prompts for specific operations.
4.3 Printing Labels
Once the printer is connected to your computer or network and configured, send print jobs from your label design software. The PM43 supports various language emulations including DSim, Fingerprint, and IPL, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Printhead
Regularly clean the printhead to ensure optimal print quality and extend its lifespan. Use a lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Power off the printer and allow the printhead to cool before cleaning.
5.2 Cleaning Rollers and Media Path
Inspect and clean the media rollers and path to prevent dust and adhesive buildup, which can cause media jams or poor print quality. Use a soft, damp cloth.
5.3 Replacing Media and Ribbon
When media or ribbon runs out, follow the loading instructions in Section 3.3. Ensure proper tension and alignment for continuous operation.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Intermec PM43 printer.
- No Power: Check power cord connections and ensure the outlet is functional.
- Poor Print Quality: Clean the printhead (Section 5.1). Ensure media and ribbon are correctly loaded and compatible. Adjust print darkness settings via the printer interface.
- Media Jams: Open the printer cover and carefully remove any jammed media. Ensure media is loaded correctly and guides are adjusted.
- Printer Not Responding: Verify data cable connections (USB/Ethernet). Restart the printer and the connected computer/network device. Check printer status on the interface for error messages.
- Connectivity Issues: For Ethernet, check network cable and network settings on the printer. For USB, ensure drivers are installed on the computer.
For persistent issues, consult the detailed error messages displayed on the printer's interface or refer to the manufacturer's online support resources.
