The Columbia CS4-232-EU is a 4-foot straight-sided utility channel designed to accommodate two T8 32-watt fluorescent lamps (lamps not included). It features a durable steel housing and an electronic instant start T8 ballast, suitable for 120-277 VAC electrical systems.
2. Important Safety Information

5. Installation (Setup)
Before you begin: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker. Gather necessary tools (e.g., screwdriver, wire strippers, drill, mounting hardware). This fixture can be surface-mounted or suspended.
5.1. Mounting the Fixture
The fixture's die-formed steel housing allows for various mounting options. Mounting hardware is not supplied and must be selected based on the mounting surface and method (surface or suspended).
- Surface Mounting:
- Position the fixture in the desired location and mark the mounting points.
- Drill pilot holes if necessary.
- Secure the fixture to the ceiling or wall using appropriate screws or anchors (not included).
- Suspended Mounting:
- Install suspension chains or rods (not included) to the ceiling structure.
- Attach the fixture to the suspension system, ensuring it is level and securely fastened.

5.2. Wiring the Fixture
CAUTION: Ensure power is OFF before wiring.
- Open the ballast cover. The ballast cover is retained by 1/4 turn fasteners.
- Route the electrical supply wires into the fixture's wiring compartment.
- Connect the supply wires to the fixture's wires according to local electrical codes:
- Connect the black (hot) supply wire to the black fixture wire.
- Connect the white (neutral) supply wire to the white fixture wire.
- Connect the green or bare copper (ground) supply wire to the green fixture wire or ground screw.
- Secure all wire connections with approved wire connectors.
- Carefully tuck all wires into the wiring compartment and close the ballast cover, securing it with the 1/4 turn fasteners.
5.3. Installing Fluorescent Lamps
This fixture requires two 4-foot T8 32-watt fluorescent lamps (not included).
- Ensure power is still OFF.
- Align the pins of the T8 fluorescent lamp with the sockets at each end of the fixture.
- Gently push the lamp into the sockets and rotate it 90 degrees until it clicks into place.
- Repeat for the second lamp.
- Ensure both lamps are securely seated.
6. Operation
Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power at the circuit breaker. The fixture will operate via the wall switch or control connected to its power supply.
- Turn on the wall switch to illuminate the fixture.
- Turn off the wall switch to extinguish the fixture.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your fixture.
7.1. Cleaning
WARNING: Disconnect power before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior of the fixture with a soft, damp cloth.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
- Ensure the fixture is completely dry before restoring power.
7.2. Lamp Replacement
WARNING: Disconnect power before replacing lamps.
- Allow lamps to cool completely before handling.
- Gently rotate the old lamp 90 degrees and pull it out of the sockets.
- Insert a new 4-foot T8 32-watt fluorescent lamp by aligning the pins, pushing it into the sockets, and rotating 90 degrees until it locks.
- Dispose of old fluorescent lamps according to local regulations.
8. Troubleshooting
Before attempting any troubleshooting, ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker.
