Maintenance
1. Dust Removal (DR)
The K-30 incorporates a DR (Dust Removal) mechanism to shake dust off the surface of the CMOS image sensor. This function can be activated via the camera's menu.
2. Cleaning the Camera and Lens
- Camera Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the camera body. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid using organic solvents.
- Lens: Use a lens blower brush to remove dust. For smudges, use a specialized lens cleaning solution and a microfiber lens cloth. Never touch the lens surface with your fingers.
- Sensor: The DR mechanism handles most dust. For persistent dust, consult a professional service center.
3. Storage
When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity. Use desiccant packets if storing in humid environments.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Pentax K-30, consider the following general troubleshooting steps:
- Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. If using AA batteries, check their orientation and charge level.
- Cannot take pictures: Check if a memory card is inserted and has sufficient free space. Ensure the lens is properly attached and the lens cap is removed.
- Images are blurry: Verify that the lens is in focus. Check the shutter speed; a slow shutter speed may cause blur due to camera shake (use SR or a tripod).
- Autofocus not working: Ensure the AF/MF switch on the lens or camera is set to AF. Check lighting conditions; very low light may hinder autofocus.
- Error message displayed: Refer to the camera's on-screen error code or the full digital manual for specific error explanations.
