Setup

1. Charging the Battery

  1. Locate the charging port on the back of the Game Boy Advance SP.
  2. Connect the OEM charger to the charging port.
  3. Plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
  4. Allow approximately 3 hours for a full charge. The indicator light will turn off when charging is complete.

2. Inserting a Game Pak

  1. Open the Game Boy Advance SP console.
  2. Locate the Game Pak slot at the top of the console.
  3. Insert the Game Pak with the label facing away from the console's hinge until it clicks into place. Ensure it is fully seated.

3. Powering On/Off

  • To Power On: Slide the POWER switch, located on the right side of the console, to the 'ON' position.
  • To Power Off: Slide the POWER switch to the 'OFF' position. Always power off the console before removing a Game Pak.

Operating Instructions

Basic Controls

  • D-Pad (Directional Pad): Located on the left, used for character movement and menu navigation.
  • A Button: Typically used for confirming selections or primary actions.
  • B Button: Typically used for canceling selections or secondary actions.
  • L/R Buttons: Shoulder buttons located on the top of the console, used for various in-game functions.
  • START Button: Used to pause games or confirm selections.

Adjusting Screen Brightness (AGS-101 Specific)

The AGS-101 model features an improved backlit screen with two brightness settings.

  • Press the small round button located in the center of the console, below the screen, to cycle between the two brightness levels.

Volume Control

  • Adjust the volume using the VOLUME slider switch located on the left side of the console.

Using Headphones

The Game Boy Advance SP requires a specific headphone adapter (sold separately) to connect standard 3.5mm headphones. The adapter plugs into the console's charging port.

  • Game Pak not loading: Ensure the Game Pak is fully inserted into the slot. Clean the Game Pak's contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol if necessary.
  • No sound: Check the VOLUME slider. Ensure headphones are properly connected via the adapter (if used).
  • Buttons unresponsive: Power off the console, remove the Game Pak, and power it back on. If the issue persists, ensure no debris is lodged around the buttons.
