2. Safety Information

  • Electrical Safety: Always plug the dispenser into a grounded electrical outlet. Do not use extension cords. Ensure the power cord is not pinched or damaged.
  • Water Safety: Use only potable water. Do not operate the dispenser without a water bottle installed and water flowing through the system, as this can damage the heating and cooling elements.
  • Child Safety Lock: The hot water dispenser features a child safety lock to prevent accidental dispensing of hot water. Always engage this lock when not in use, especially in households with children.
  • Placement: Place the dispenser on a flat, stable surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
  • BPA-Free Materials: All materials that come into contact with the water are BPA-free certified for your safety.
  • Hot Surfaces: The hot water tank and dispensing area can become very hot. Exercise caution to avoid burns.

3. Setup Guide

Setting up your Primo water dispenser is a straightforward process. Follow these steps for initial installation:

  1. Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove the dispenser from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Positioning: Place the dispenser on a level, sturdy surface. Ensure there is at least 4 inches of clearance from the wall to allow for proper ventilation.
  3. Install Drip Tray: Insert the removable drip tray into its designated slot at the base of the dispensing area.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the dispenser into a grounded 120V AC outlet. Do not turn on the heating or cooling switches yet.
  5. Load Water Bottle: Remove the cap from a 3 or 5-gallon Primo water bottle. Carefully lift and place the bottle onto the top-loading pier of the dispenser. The probe will puncture the bottle cap, allowing water to flow into the internal reservoirs.
  6. Prime the System: Before turning on the heating and cooling functions, dispense water from both the hot and cold spouts until water flows steadily. This ensures the tanks are filled and prevents damage to the heating element.
  7. Activate Heating/Cooling: Once water flows steadily, turn on the hot and cold switches located on the back of the unit. Allow approximately 15-20 minutes for the water to reach optimal temperatures.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your water dispenser.

  • Drip Tray Cleaning: The removable stainless steel drip tray should be emptied and cleaned regularly. It is dishwasher-safe for convenience.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
  • Internal Cleaning (Every 3-6 Months):
    1. Unplug the dispenser and remove the water bottle.
    2. Drain all water from both hot and cold spouts.
    3. Prepare a cleaning solution (e.g., a mixture of water and food-grade vinegar).
    4. Pour the cleaning solution into the top reservoir.
    5. Allow it to sit for 15-30 minutes.
    6. Drain the solution through both spouts until the reservoir is empty.
    7. Rinse thoroughly by filling and draining with fresh water several times.
  • Nozzle Maintenance: If water flow becomes slow, a small obstruction might be present in the nozzle. Gently insert a thin, non-sharp object (like a toothpick) into the nozzle to clear any debris.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No water dispensing. Empty water bottle; airlock; dispenser not primed. Replace bottle; ensure bottle is seated correctly; prime the system by dispensing from all spouts until water flows.
Water not hot/cold. Heating/cooling switch off; insufficient time to reach temperature; unit unplugged. Ensure switches are on; allow 15-20 minutes for temperature stabilization; check power connection.
Slow water flow. Mineral buildup or debris in nozzle. Perform nozzle maintenance as described in Section 5. Regular cleaning helps prevent this.
Unit making unusual noise. Compressor cycling (normal); unit not level. Some noise is normal during heating/cooling cycles. Ensure the unit is on a level surface.
