1. Introduction and Overview
The First Alert BRK SC7010B is a hardwired combination photoelectric smoke and electrochemical carbon monoxide (CO) alarm designed for residential and institutional applications. This unit provides dual protection against both smoke from smoldering fires and dangerous carbon monoxide gas. It features a battery backup to ensure continuous operation during power outages.
Key features include:
- Dual Sensing Technology: Photoelectric sensor for smoke detection and an advanced electrochemical sensor for carbon monoxide.
- Optipath 360 Technology: Enhances smoke detection with 360-degree access.
- Spread Spectrum Horn Tone: Designed with a lower, varying frequency for improved audibility, especially for individuals with age-related hearing loss.
- Battery Backup: Operates on 120V AC power with 2 AA battery backup (included) for protection during power failures.
- Smart Interconnect: Can connect to other compatible BRK or First Alert detectors, ensuring all alarms sound when a threat is detected.
- Latching Features: Alarm Latch identifies the initiating alarm even after the condition subsides. Low Battery Latch visually indicates which unit has a low battery.
- Silence Features: Temporarily silence low battery chirps for up to eight hours or mute false alarms.
- End of Life Signal: Provides an audible chirp to indicate when the unit needs replacement.

2. Setup and Installation
The SC7010B detector is designed for hardwired installation into your home's electrical system (120V AC 60Hz). It includes a Quick-Connect wiring harness for easy and cost-effective setup. A perfect mount system allows for simple installation and alignment.
2.1 Wiring
Connect the detector using the provided Quick-Connect wiring harness. Ensure proper connection of black (line), white (neutral), and orange (interconnect) wires according to local electrical codes and the included instructions. The unit also requires 2 AA batteries for backup power.

2.2 Recommended Placement
For optimal safety, install smoke alarms on every level of your home and in every bedroom. Carbon monoxide alarms should also be placed on every level and in every bedroom. Consider additional placement in areas with fuel-burning appliances.

3. Operating Instructions
Once installed and powered, the detector will perform a self-test. A green LED light indicates proper functioning. The unit features a test/silence button for regular checks and to temporarily silence nuisance alarms.
3.1 Testing the Alarm
Press and hold the 'Test/Silence' button on the alarm. The alarm will sound a loud, piercing tone, indicating that the smoke and CO sensors are functioning correctly. Test your alarms weekly to ensure they are working.
3.2 Alarm Indications
- Smoke Alarm: A loud, continuous horn sound.
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm: Four quick beeps, a pause, and then four quick beeps again. If this alarm sounds, move to fresh air immediately.
- Low Battery: A single chirp approximately once every minute.
- End of Life: Five chirps approximately every minute. This indicates the unit needs to be replaced.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the continued reliability of your First Alert BRK SC7010B detector.
4.1 Battery Replacement
The unit uses 2 AA batteries for backup. When the low battery signal (one chirp per minute) sounds, replace the batteries promptly. The easy-access battery drawer allows for replacement without removing the unit from its mounting bracket.

4.2 Cleaning
Clean your detector regularly to prevent dust and debris from interfering with its operation. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust from the vents. Do not paint the unit.
4.3 End of Life
The detector has a 10-year limited warranty and is equipped with an end-of-life signal. When the unit chirps five times every minute, it indicates that the detector has reached the end of its operational life and must be replaced immediately.
5. Troubleshooting
Understanding the different alarm and chirp patterns can help identify and resolve issues with your detector.
5.1 Alarm Sounds and Their Meanings

- 4 Beeps and a Pause: Indicates Carbon Monoxide detection. Evacuate to fresh air.
- 1 Beep Every Minute: Indicates Low Battery. Replace batteries immediately.
- 5 Beeps Every Minute: Indicates End of Life. Replace the unit.
5.2 False Alarms
False alarms can occur due to cooking fumes, steam, or excessive dust. Use the 'Silence' button to temporarily quiet the alarm. If false alarms persist after cleaning, ensure proper placement away from cooking areas or high humidity.
