Setup Instructions

The Logitech Alert 700n is an add-on camera designed for easy integration with your existing Logitech Alert Master System. The system utilizes HomePlug technology, transmitting video data over your home's electrical wiring.

  1. Placement: Choose an indoor location for your camera. The camera can be placed on a desk, shelf, or mounted on a ceiling or wall using the included hardware. Ensure the camera is positioned to cover the desired viewing area.
  2. Mounting Options: The camera offers versatile mounting options. Use the provided mounting kit to secure the camera to a ceiling, wall, or place it on a flat surface.

  4. Power Connection: Plug the camera's power supply into a standard wall power outlet.
  5. Network Connection: The camera connects to your Alert Master System via your home's electrical wiring using HomePlug technology. No additional network cables are typically required between the camera and the master system's network connection.
  6. Diagram illustrating HomePlug technology for camera connection

  7. System Integration: Once powered, the camera should be detected by your Logitech Alert Master System software (Logitech Alert Commander). Follow the on-screen prompts within the software to add and configure the new camera.

Note on HomePlug Technology: HomePlug networking uses your home's electrical wiring to transmit video. For optimal performance, avoid plugging the camera or master system into surge protectors, as these can block the signal. Direct wall outlets are recommended. In some multi-phase electrical systems, a signal bridge may be required for reliable communication between different electrical phases; consult a qualified electrician if you experience connectivity issues.

Operating Instructions

Logitech Alert Commander Software

The Logitech Alert Commander software is your primary interface for managing and viewing your security system. It allows you to:

  • View live video feeds from all connected cameras.
  • Review recorded video footage.
  • Configure camera settings, including motion detection zones and alert preferences.
  • Perform digital pan, tilt, and zoom functions on live or recorded video.

Video Quality and Night Vision

The camera captures HD 720p video with a 130-degree wide-angle lens, providing a broad view of the monitored area. The integrated night vision illumination allows for clear visibility up to 50 feet in complete darkness. The camera includes an IR cut filter that automatically adjusts for optimal image quality between day and night conditions.

Important Note on Night Vision: Infrared night vision does not function effectively through window glass. If the camera is placed indoors looking out a window, night vision capabilities will be significantly impaired or non-functional due to reflections and absorption by the glass.

Motion Detection and Alerts

Configure your camera to detect motion within specific zones. You can define up to 16 motion-detection zones to focus on vulnerable areas like doors or windows. When motion is detected, the system can send alerts to your email address and mobile phone. Alert notifications can be scheduled for specific times.

Remote Viewing

Access live video feeds from your Logitech Alert cameras remotely using an Internet-connected computer or free Logitech apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, or Blackberry devices. Log in to Logitech's secure site or use the mobile applications to monitor your property from anywhere.

Built-in DVR

The camera includes a 2 GB microSD card for on-camera recording. This allows the camera to record motion-triggered events even when your computer is turned off. Recorded videos are automatically backed up to your computer when it is connected to your network. The microSD card can be upgraded to a larger capacity (up to 32 GB, sold separately) for extended recording time.

Maintenance

MicroSD Card Management

The included 2 GB microSD card stores recorded video. When the card is full, older footage is typically overwritten by new recordings, especially after being backed up to your computer. You can replace the card with a larger one (up to 32 GB) if more on-camera storage is desired. Refer to the Logitech Alert Commander software for managing recorded footage and backup settings.

Cleaning

To maintain optimal image quality, periodically clean the camera lens with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could scratch the lens or camera body.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera Not Connecting / "Red Lights of Death": If your camera displays red indicator lights and fails to connect, this may indicate a power or internal hardware issue. First, try power cycling the camera by unplugging it from the wall outlet for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. Ensure it is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector. If the issue persists, contact Logitech support.
  • Poor Night Vision Through Window: As noted in the operating instructions, infrared night vision does not work through glass. If you require night vision for an outdoor area, an outdoor camera model is recommended, or the camera must be placed outside.
  • Intermittent Connectivity (HomePlug): HomePlug performance can be affected by electrical interference or if the camera and master system are on different electrical phases. Try plugging the camera into a different wall outlet. Avoid outlets shared with large appliances (e.g., refrigerators). If issues persist in a multi-phase electrical system, a signal bridge may be necessary, requiring professional installation.
  • Motion Detection Too Sensitive/Not Sensitive Enough: Adjust the sensitivity settings within the Logitech Alert Commander software. You can also refine the 16 motion-detection zones to exclude areas with frequent, non-relevant movement (e.g., moving tree branches).
  • Mac Software Issues: If experiencing specific issues with camera settings on Mac software, ensure your Alert Commander software is up to date. In some cases, initial setup or specific adjustments might require a Windows PC, after which the camera can be migrated back to the Mac network.
