2. General Safety Information
WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Work Area Safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Personal Safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.

4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation and Removal
- Ensure the drill/driver is turned off before installing or removing the battery.
- To install, align the battery pack with the base of the tool and slide it in until it clicks securely into place.
- To remove, press the release latches on the sides of the battery pack and slide the battery out.
Note: This tool is sold without a battery and charger. Use only with compatible RYOBI ONE+ 18V Lithium Ion or NiCad batteries.
4.2. Bit Installation and Removal
- Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
- Insert the desired drill bit or screwdriver bit into the chuck. Ensure the bit is centered and fully seated.
- Rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. The keyless chuck features an automatic spindle lock for easy, one-handed tightening.
- To remove the bit, rotate the chuck counter-clockwise until the jaws open sufficiently.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Selecting Speed
The drill/driver features a 2-speed gearbox:
- Speed 1 (Low): Provides higher torque for driving screws and drilling larger holes.
- Speed 2 (High): Provides higher speed for drilling smaller holes and faster driving.
Use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill to choose the appropriate speed for your task.
5.2. Adjusting Clutch Settings
The 24-position clutch allows you to adjust the torque output. This prevents over-driving screws and damaging materials. Rotate the clutch collar to select the desired setting:
- Lower numbers (1-10) are for driving small screws or working with soft materials.
- Higher numbers (11-24) are for driving larger screws or working with harder materials.
- The drill icon setting is for drilling applications, providing maximum torque.
5.3. Forward/Reverse Operation
The forward/reverse selector switch is located above the trigger. Push it to the left for forward (clockwise) rotation for drilling and driving. Push it to the right for reverse (counter-clockwise) rotation for removing screws or backing out drill bits. Center the switch to lock the trigger and prevent accidental starting.
5.4. Using the LED Light
The integrated LED light automatically illuminates the work surface when the trigger is pressed, providing better visibility in dimly lit areas.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
- Keep the tool's air vents clear to prevent overheating.
- Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the tool. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals.
6.2. Battery Care
- Always store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Charge batteries fully before storage and periodically during long storage periods to maintain battery health.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Tool does not start | Battery not installed correctly or discharged; Forward/reverse selector in center (locked) position. | Ensure battery is fully charged and properly seated; Move selector to forward or reverse position. |
| Reduced power or speed | Low battery charge; Incorrect speed setting; Overloading the tool. | Recharge battery; Select higher speed setting; Reduce pressure or use a larger drill bit. |
| Bit slips in chuck | Chuck not tightened sufficiently; Bit shank is dirty or damaged. | Retighten chuck firmly; Clean or replace bit. |
