- Engage the hand brakes before seating or unseating the user, and whenever the wheelchair is stationary.
- Ensure the user's feet are properly placed on the footrests before moving the wheelchair.
- This transport chair is designed to be pushed by an attendant, not for self-propulsion by the user.
- Avoid using the wheelchair on uneven terrain, soft surfaces like gravel or sand, or thick lawns, as this may cause instability or damage.
- Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs.
- Regularly inspect all components for wear, damage, or loose parts. Do not use if any part is compromised.

4. Setup
The Medline Lightweight Foldable Transport Wheelchair requires no assembly and is ready for use upon unpacking.
- Unfolding the Wheelchair:
Grasp both armrests and pull them apart until the wheelchair is fully open. Press down firmly on the seat upholstery from the sides until it is flat and locked into position.
- Attaching Footrests:
Align the footrest pins with the receiving tubes on the front of the wheelchair frame. Insert the pins and swing the footrests into position. Ensure they are securely locked.
- Checking Brakes:
Before placing a user in the chair, test the hand brakes by squeezing them to slow the chair and pushing them down to lock the rear wheels. Ensure they function correctly.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Seating the User
- Ensure the wheelchair is on a flat, stable surface.
- Engage both rear-wheel manual locking brakes by pushing down on the hand brake levers until they click into the locked position.
- Swing the footrests out of the way or detach them if necessary to allow clear access for the user.
- Assist the user to sit safely in the chair.
- Once seated, swing the footrests back into position and ensure the user's feet are comfortably and securely placed on them.
- Fasten the seat belt securely around the user.
5.2 Moving the Wheelchair
- Release the rear-wheel manual locking brakes by pulling up on the hand brake levers.
- Grasp the push handles firmly.
- Push the wheelchair forward or backward as needed. Use the hand brakes to control speed, especially on inclines or declines, by gently squeezing the levers.
- To turn, apply slight pressure to one handle while pushing the other, or gently pivot the chair.
5.3 Folding for Transport or Storage
- Ensure the user is safely out of the wheelchair.
- Detach or swing away the footrests.
- Pull up on the center of the seat upholstery to begin folding the chair inward.
- Continue to fold until the chair is compact. The swing-away footrests can be locked in place for more compact storage.
- The folded chair can then be lifted into a car trunk or back seat.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your transport wheelchair.
- Cleaning: Wipe down the frame and upholstery regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners. The black nylon upholstery is easy to clean.
- Brakes: Periodically check the hand brakes for proper function and adjustment. Ensure they engage and release smoothly and securely lock the wheels when applied.
- Wheels: Inspect wheels for wear and tear. Ensure they rotate freely and are free of debris.
- Frame and Fasteners: Check all bolts, screws, and connections regularly to ensure they are tight. Do not overtighten.
- Storage: Store the wheelchair in a dry, clean environment when not in use.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Wheelchair difficult to push or steer. | Brakes partially engaged; debris in wheels; uneven surface. | Ensure brakes are fully disengaged. Check wheels for obstructions. Move to a smoother surface. |
| Brakes not holding securely. | Brake cable loose or worn pads. | Inspect brake cables and pads. If adjustment or replacement is needed, contact customer support. |
| Front wheels catch on small obstacles, causing instability. | Small front wheels are less suited for rough terrain. | When encountering uneven surfaces, turn the chair around and approach with the larger rear wheels first to maintain stability. Avoid rough terrain where possible. |
| Footrests are difficult to attach/detach or swing. | Pins or receiving tubes are dirty or misaligned. | Clean the footrest pins and receiving tubes. Ensure proper alignment before attempting to attach or swing. Do not force. |
