1. Introduction

2. Initial Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Checking Contents

Before proceeding, ensure all components are present:

2.2 Attaching the Lens

  1. Remove the body cap from the camera body and the rear lens cap from the lens.
  2. Align the mounting mark on the lens with the mounting mark on the camera body.
  3. Rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it clicks into place.

2.3 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery chamber cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the battery with the correct orientation until it locks into place.
  3. Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera.
  4. Insert an SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card into the slot until it clicks.
  5. Close both covers securely.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1 Power On/Off

To power on the camera, rotate the power switch around the shutter-release button to the 'ON' position. To power off, rotate it to 'OFF'.

3.2 Shooting Modes

The mode dial on the top of the camera allows selection of various shooting modes:

  • AUTO: Fully automatic mode for point-and-shoot simplicity.
  • GUIDE: Provides on-screen assistance for various shooting situations and settings.
  • P (Programmed auto): Camera sets shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure.
  • S (Shutter-priority auto): User sets shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • A (Aperture-priority auto): User sets aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • M (Manual): User controls both shutter speed and aperture.
  • SCENE: Select from various scene modes (e.g., Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait).
  • EFFECTS: Apply special effects to photos.

3.3 Focusing

The D3200 features an 11-point autofocus system. Focus modes include:

  • AF-A (Auto-servo AF): Camera automatically selects single-servo or continuous-servo AF.
  • AF-S (Single-servo AF): For stationary subjects. Focus locks when shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
  • AF-C (Continuous-servo AF): For moving subjects. Camera continuously focuses while shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
  • MF (Manual Focus): User manually adjusts focus using the lens focus ring.

3.4 Flash Operation

The camera has a built-in flash. To raise the flash, press the flash button on the side of the camera. Flash modes include Auto, Fill Flash, Red-Eye Reduction, Slow Sync, Rear Curtain Sync, and Manual.

3.5 Video Recording

The D3200 supports One-touch Full HD 1080p movie recording. To start recording, rotate the live view switch and then press the movie-record button. An external microphone socket is available for enhanced audio quality.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a blower to remove dust from the lens and camera body.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a soft, clean cloth lightly dampened with lens cleaner.
  • Avoid touching the image sensor directly. If cleaning is required, consult a professional service center.

4.2 Battery Care

  • Charge the battery using the supplied MH-24 charger.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures.
