Figure 1: Casio G-Shock GWM5610-1 Watch Overview
This image shows the front face of the G-Shock GWM5610-1, highlighting its digital display, "TOUGH SOLAR" and "MULTI BAND 6" indicators, and the iconic square case design. The watch is black with red accents around the display.
Setup
Initial Charge
Your G-Shock GWM5610-1 is equipped with Tough Solar power, meaning it charges using light. Upon first use or after prolonged storage, ensure the watch is exposed to bright light (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours to achieve a full charge. The battery level indicator on the display will show 'H' for high charge.
- Place the watch where it can receive direct sunlight or strong artificial light.
- Avoid placing the watch in extremely hot environments during charging.
- The auto light feature will not work if the battery level falls below Medium (marked as M on the face of the watch).
Time Synchronization (Multi-Band 6)
The watch automatically receives time calibration signals from six transmission stations around the world to maintain accurate time. Manual synchronization is also possible.
- Automatic Reception: The watch attempts to receive a calibration signal automatically up to six times a day. For best reception, place the watch near a window at night.
- Manual Reception:
- In Timekeeping Mode, hold down the 'RECEIVE' button (usually the bottom right button, labeled 'D' or 'RCVD') for about two seconds until 'RCVD' flashes on the display.
- The watch will begin the reception process. Keep the watch still and away from sources of interference.
- Upon successful reception, 'GET' will appear on the display. If unsuccessful, 'ERR' will appear.
Ensure your Home City setting is correct for proper signal reception. Refer to the "Setting Home City" section for details.
Operating Modes
Your G-Shock GWM5610-1 has several operating modes accessible via the 'MODE' button (top left, labeled 'ADJUST' or 'MODE'). Pressing this button cycles through the modes in the following order:
- Timekeeping Mode: Displays current time, date, and day of the week. This is the default mode.
- World Time Mode: Displays the current time in 48 cities (29 time zones) around the world.
- Alarm Mode: Set up to 5 daily alarms and an hourly time signal.
- Stopwatch Mode: Measure elapsed time with 1/100-second accuracy.
- Countdown Timer Mode: Set a timer for a specific duration.
Adjusting Settings (Timekeeping Mode)
To adjust time, date, or other settings in Timekeeping Mode:
- Hold down the 'ADJUST' button (top left) until the city code starts flashing. This indicates the setting mode.
- Use the 'MODE' button (bottom left) to cycle through the settings (City Code, DST, 12/24-hour format, Seconds, Hour, Minute, Year, Month, Day, Illumination Duration, Power Saving).
- Use the 'SET (+)' (top right) and 'SPLIT-RESET (-)' (bottom right) buttons to change the flashing value.
- Once all settings are configured, press the 'ADJUST' button again to exit the setting mode.
Auto Light Feature
The auto light feature illuminates the display when you tilt your wrist towards your face in a dark environment. To activate or deactivate:
- Hold down the 'LIGHT' button (top right, labeled 'SET (+)') for approximately 3 seconds.
- 'A.EL' will appear on the display when activated. Repeat the process to deactivate.
- Note: This feature consumes battery power and will automatically shut off after six hours or if the battery level drops to 'M'.

Figure 2: Detailed View of Watch Display
This image provides a closer look at the watch's digital display, showing the time, day of the week, and date. The clear, high-contrast display is visible, along with the "SHOCK RESIST" and "MULTI BAND 6" markings.
Maintenance
Care and Cleaning
- Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and moisture.
- For stubborn dirt, use a soft brush and mild soap solution, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry.
- Avoid exposing the watch to harsh chemicals, solvents, or strong magnetic fields.
- The resin band and case are durable but can degrade over time with prolonged exposure to sunlight or extreme temperatures.
Battery (Tough Solar)
The watch uses a rechargeable battery powered by a solar panel. Regular exposure to light is crucial for optimal performance.
- Keep the watch exposed to light whenever possible, especially when not in use.
- A fully charged battery can power the watch for approximately 10 months in total darkness with Power Saving function ON.
- If the battery level drops to 'L' (low), some functions may be disabled. Charge immediately.
- If the battery level drops further, the display may go blank. This is the Power Saving function. Expose to light to reactivate.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Light feature does not work. | Battery level is 'M' (Medium) or 'L' (Low). Feature is deactivated. | Charge the watch fully. Activate the auto light feature by holding the 'LIGHT' button for 3 seconds. |
| Time synchronization fails ('ERR' displayed). | Poor signal reception due to location, interference, or time of day. | Move to a location with better reception (e.g., near a window). Try manual reception at a different time. Ensure Home City is set correctly. |
| Display is blank. | Power Saving function activated due to low battery or prolonged inactivity. | Expose the watch to bright light to charge the battery and reactivate the display. |
| Watch is not charging. | Insufficient light exposure. Solar panel obstruction. | Ensure the watch face is directly exposed to strong light. Clean the watch face to remove any obstructions. |
