Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all components are present.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the water reservoir, milk reservoir, portafilter, and filter baskets with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Water Reservoir Setup: Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line. Ensure the plastic plug at the back of the water tank is removed before placing it on the machine.
  4. Priming the Machine:
    • Place an empty cup under the brew head.
    • Turn on the machine.
    • Run a full tank of water through the machine by selecting the "Custom" espresso button until the water reservoir is empty. This primes the pump and flushes the system.
    • Repeat this process with a half tank of white vinegar, followed by a full tank of plain water to rinse, as recommended for optimal performance and taste.
  5. Milk Reservoir Setup: Fill the milk reservoir with desired milk up to the MAX line. Ensure the frothing tube is properly inserted into the machine.

Operating Instructions

Making Espresso

  1. Ensure the water reservoir is filled.
  2. Select the appropriate filter basket (single or double shot) and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Fill the filter basket with finely ground espresso coffee.
  4. Use the tamper to firmly press the coffee grounds. A consistent 30 lbs of pressure is recommended for optimal extraction.
  5. Attach the portafilter to the brew head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right.
  6. Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.
  7. Press the "Espresso" button for a single or double shot. The machine will automatically brew the espresso.

Frothing Milk

The automatic milk frother simplifies milk preparation for lattes and cappuccinos.

  1. Ensure the milk reservoir is filled with cold milk.
  2. Adjust the milk frother dial to the desired foam level (Latte for less foam, Cappuccino for more foam, or Froth for milk only).
  3. Place your cup under the milk frother nozzle.
  4. Press the "Froth" button to begin frothing. The machine will automatically dispense frothed milk.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of your machine.

Daily Cleaning

  • Milk System: After each use, turn the milk frother dial to the "Clean" position and press the "Clean" button to flush the milk system. This prevents milk residue buildup.
  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: Remove and rinse after each use.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean daily to prevent overflow and bacterial growth.
  • Water Reservoir: Rinse daily and refill with fresh water.

Descaling

Descaling is essential to remove mineral buildup and maintain optimal machine performance. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage, but generally every 2-3 months is recommended.

  1. Empty the water and milk reservoirs.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with a descaling solution (or a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water).
  3. Place a large container under the brew head and milk frother.
  4. Run the descaling solution through the machine by repeatedly pressing the "Custom" espresso button and the "Froth" button until the reservoir is empty.
  5. Rinse the water reservoir and fill with fresh water. Repeat the process to flush out any remaining descaling solution.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions
ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Machine not heating up sufficiently (e.g., 157°F instead of 170-180°F)Mineral buildup or initial setup issue.Perform an initial cleaning cycle with white vinegar as described in the Setup section, even for new machines. Regular descaling is also important.
Water reservoir leaksImproper seating of the reservoir or a minor seal issue.Ensure the reservoir is firmly and correctly seated. Some users have found that placing a thin piece of cardboard behind the reservoir can help it seat properly.
Espresso brews too fast (e.g., 14-15 seconds for a shot)Coffee grounds too coarse or not tamped firmly enough.Use finer ground coffee (consistency of table salt). Ensure coffee is tamped with approximately 30 lbs of pressure.
Frother not producing enough foam or stops working wellMilk residue buildup or general wear.Perform regular milk system cleaning after each use. Thoroughly clean the milk frother components. If issues persist, descaling may be necessary.
