2. Product Overview

The 3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6000 Series, model 6200 (Medium), is designed to provide protection against particulates and a wide variety of gases and vapors when used with approved cartridges and filters. This respirator, when properly fitted and used with approved 3M cartridges and filters, can help provide protection at concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL).

The swept-back design of the cartridges helps improve balance and visibility. The facepiece is remarkably comfortable, soft, and lightweight, featuring easy-to-adjust head straps for a customized fit. Replaceable cartridges help reduce waste and costs over time.

NIOSH, a USA federal government regulatory agency, has tested and approved the 6000 Series Half Facepiece with certain 3M cartridges, filters, and supplied air systems. It is approved for negative-pressure air purifying and positive-pressure dual airline applications.

5. Setup and Filter Attachment

The 3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6200 does not come with filters. Filters and cartridges must be purchased separately based on the specific hazards you need protection from. Ensure you select appropriate 3M 6000 Series Gas/Vapor Cartridges or 3M Particle Filters (2000, 2200, 7000, or 5000 Series) that are compatible with the bayonet connection system.

  1. Select Filters: Choose the correct filters or cartridges for your application (e.g., P100 filters for particulates, organic vapor cartridges for gases/vapors).
  2. Align Filters: Align the bayonet connector on the filter/cartridge with the corresponding connector on the facepiece.
  3. Attach Filters: Push the filter/cartridge onto the facepiece connector and twist clockwise until it clicks into place. Ensure both filters/cartridges are securely attached.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Wearing the Respirator

  1. Position Facepiece: Hold the facepiece in one hand and pull the head harness over your head with the other. Position the facepiece over your nose and mouth.
  2. Adjust Head Harness: Pull the lower straps behind your neck and fasten them. Adjust the tension of the upper and lower straps to achieve a snug but comfortable fit. The four-point harness ensures even pressure distribution.
  3. Ensure Proper Seal: The soft elastomeric material should conform to your face without gaps.

6.2. User Seal Check

Perform a user seal check every time you put on the respirator to ensure proper fit and protection.

  1. Positive Pressure Seal Check: Place the palm of your hand over the exhalation valve cover and gently exhale. The facepiece should slightly bulge away from your face. If you feel air leaking, readjust the straps and repeat the check.
  2. Negative Pressure Seal Check: Place the palms of your hands over the entire surface of the cartridges/filters and gently inhale. The facepiece should slightly collapse towards your face. If you feel air leaking, readjust the straps and repeat the check.
