1.1 Video Guide: Tier 1 Advanced Power Strips Setup
Video: An official setup guide from TrickleStar Inc. demonstrating how to connect devices to the power strip's various outlets and adjust settings.
1.2 Connecting Your Devices
- Control Device Connection: Plug your primary device, such as a TV or PC, into the outlet labeled "control." This device will dictate the power state of the "switched" outlets.
- Always On Devices: Connect any electronics that require continuous power, such as a DVR, cable box, router, or modem, into the outlets labeled "always on." These outlets provide constant power regardless of the control device's state.
- Switched Devices: Plug peripheral devices like DVD players, sound systems, printers, or monitors into the outlets labeled "switched." These outlets will receive power only when your control device is turned on.
- Threshold Switch Adjustment: If your power strip features an adjustable threshold switch (typically located on the side), set it according to your control device's power consumption.
- For TV setup: LCD/LED 50" or Larger: High; LCD/LED Less than 50": Medium; Tube/CRT TV: High.
- For PC setup: Desktop: High; Laptop: Low.
- Power Strip Connection: Finally, plug the power strip's main cord into a grounded wall outlet.
2. Operation
The TrickleStar TS1006 Advanced PowerStrip is designed for automatic energy management.
- When your primary device (TV or PC) plugged into the "control" outlet is turned ON, power is automatically supplied to the "switched" outlets, allowing connected peripherals to operate.
- When your primary device (TV or PC) plugged into the "control" outlet is turned OFF, power to the "switched" outlets is automatically cut off. This eliminates standby power consumption from peripheral devices, reducing energy waste and lowering your electricity bill.
- The "always on" outlets provide continuous power for devices that should not be turned off, such as modems or routers.
3. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your TrickleStar TS1006 Advanced PowerStrip, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe the power strip with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust and debris. Do not use liquid cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
- Environment: Keep the power strip in a dry location, away from moisture, excessive heat, and direct sunlight.
- Cable Management: Ensure all connected cables are neatly organized and not under tension or pinched, which could damage the cords or outlets.
- Overload Protection: Avoid overloading the power strip beyond its specified capacity (15 Amps). If the circuit breaker trips, reduce the number of connected devices before resetting.
- Child Protection Covers: The power strip includes child protection covers. Ensure these are properly engaged when outlets are not in use to prevent accidental contact.
4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your TrickleStar TS1006 Advanced PowerStrip, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power to Any Outlet:
- Ensure the power strip is securely plugged into a working, grounded wall outlet.
- Check the circuit breaker on the power strip (if present) and reset it if it has tripped.
- Verify that the wall outlet itself is functional by plugging in another device.
- Switched Outlets Not Turning On/Off Automatically:
- Confirm that your primary device (TV/PC) is correctly plugged into the "control" outlet.
- Adjust the threshold switch (High/Med/Low) on the side of the power strip. Some devices, especially older or lower-power models, may require a different threshold setting to be detected correctly. Experiment with different settings.
- Ensure the control device is drawing sufficient power when on to trigger the switching mechanism. Very low-power devices might not be detected.
- Surge Protection Indicator Off:
- If the "surge" indicator light is off, it may indicate that the surge protection components have been compromised or have absorbed a significant surge. While the power strip may still provide power, its surge protection capability might be reduced or non-existent. Consider replacing the unit.
- Ground Indicator Off:
- If the "ground" indicator light is off, it suggests a grounding problem with the wall outlet or the building's wiring. Consult a qualified electrician to inspect your electrical system.
