Product Overview

An image showing the complete Coby CSP97 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System. It includes one central subwoofer unit and five smaller satellite speakers, all in black.
The Coby CSP97 system consists of a powerful subwoofer and five satellite speakers designed to deliver a 5.1-channel surround sound experience. The subwoofer houses the main amplifier and connection ports, while the satellite speakers provide directional audio.
Setup
1. Speaker Placement
- Front Left/Right Speakers: Place these speakers to the left and right of your viewing area, equidistant from the listener.
- Center Speaker: Position this speaker directly above or below your display, centered with the viewing area.
- Rear Left/Right Speakers: Place these speakers to the left and right, slightly behind the listening position, facing towards the listener.
- Subwoofer: The subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, typically on the floor. Experiment with placement to find the best bass response for your room.
2. Connecting Satellite Speakers
Connect each of the five satellite speakers to the corresponding output terminals on the rear of the subwoofer unit. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative) for optimal sound quality.
3. Connecting Audio Sources
The CSP97 offers two types of audio input connections:
- RCA Stereo Input: Use this for standard 2-channel audio sources (e.g., TV, CD player, smartphone). Connect the left and right audio outputs from your source device to the "Stereo Input" RCA jacks on the subwoofer.
- RCA 5.1-Channel Input: Use this for devices with dedicated 5.1-channel audio outputs (e.g., 5.1-channel DVD players, some computer sound cards). Connect the Front Left, Front Right, Center, Subwoofer, Rear Left, and Rear Right outputs from your source device to the corresponding "5.1 Input" RCA jacks on the subwoofer.
4. Power Connection
Once all audio and speaker connections are made, plug the power cord into the subwoofer unit and then into a standard electrical outlet.
Operation
1. Power On/Off
Locate the power switch on the subwoofer unit. Flip the switch to the 'ON' position to power on the system. The power indicator light will illuminate. Flip to 'OFF' to power down.
2. Volume Control
Adjust the master volume using the dedicated volume knob on the subwoofer. Individual channel levels (e.g., subwoofer bass, satellite volume) may also be adjustable depending on the model's controls.
3. Switching Audio Inputs
Use the input selector switch or button on the subwoofer to toggle between the RCA Stereo Input and the RCA 5.1-Channel Input, depending on your active audio source.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the speaker surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
Storage
If storing the system for an extended period, disconnect all cables and store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No Sound | Power not connected; incorrect input selected; volume too low; audio cables loose. | Check power connection; select correct input; increase volume; ensure audio cables are securely connected. |
| Distorted Sound | Volume too high; poor audio source quality; incorrect cable connection. | Reduce volume; test with a different audio source; check cable connections for damage or looseness. |
| Only some speakers working | Incorrect 5.1 setup; loose speaker cables; faulty speaker. | Verify 5.1 input connections; check individual speaker cables; test faulty speaker with another channel if possible. |
