Important Safety Information

WARNING: To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken as water is employed in the use of pond equipment. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs yourself; refer the appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.

  • Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it is malfunctioning or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
  • To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet, position pond equipment to one side of a wall-mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug.
  • A "drip loop" should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting a pond appliance to a receptacle. The "drip loop" is that part of the cord below the level of the receptacle, or the connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water traveling along the cord and coming into contact with the receptacle.
  • If the plug or receptacle does get wet, DO NOT unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Then, unplug and examine for presence of water in the receptacle.
  • Always unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
  • Do not use this appliance for other than its intended use. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
  • Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.
  • Ensure the appliance is securely installed before operating it.
  • Read and observe all important notices on the appliance.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Laguna Max-Flo pump. The pump is designed for submerged use.

Placement:

  • The Max-Flo pump can be placed directly at the bottom of your pond or within a skimmer box.
  • Ensure the pump is positioned on a stable, level surface to prevent it from tipping over.
  • For best filtration, place the pump in an area of the pond where debris tends to accumulate.

Connecting Hoses:

  • Attach the appropriate size hose to the multi-size hose connector on the pump outlet.
  • Secure the hose with a hose clamp (not included) to prevent leaks.
  • Route the hose to your waterfall, filter, or other water feature.
  • The pump features a "Click-Fit" quick-disconnect system for easy removal and maintenance.

Power Connection:

  • Ensure the power cord forms a "drip loop" before connecting to an outdoor, ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected outlet.
  • Do not plug in the pump until it is fully submerged in water.

Installation Overview Video:

Video Description: This official Laguna video provides a detailed overview of the Max-Flo pump, highlighting its features, energy efficiency, and ease of installation. It demonstrates how the pump handles solids and its quick-disconnect system for maintenance. The video also shows the pump in action, creating a waterfall effect.

Operation

The Laguna Max-Flo pump is designed for continuous, 24/7 operation to maintain optimal pond health and water clarity.

Starting the Pump:

  • Once the pump is fully submerged and all connections are secure, plug the power cord into a GFCI-protected electrical outlet.
  • The pump will start immediately.

Solids Handling:

  • The pump is engineered to handle solid particles up to 5/16 inch (8 mm) in diameter. These solids are passed through the pump without clogging and are directed to your external filter system for removal.
  • This feature reduces the frequency of pump cleaning and ensures continuous water flow.

Adjusting Flow (if applicable):

  • If your setup includes a fountain head or a diverter valve, you can adjust the water flow to different features. Refer to the specific instructions for your fountain head or diverter valve for detailed adjustments.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life of your Laguna Max-Flo pump and ensure efficient operation.

Routine Cleaning:

  • Frequency: Clean the pump cage and impeller assembly periodically, especially if you notice a reduction in water flow. The frequency depends on the amount of debris in your pond.
  • Disconnection: Always unplug the pump from the power outlet before performing any maintenance.
  • Accessing Impeller: Use the "Click-Fit" quick-disconnect system to easily remove the pump from the hose. Open the pump cage by releasing the latches (refer to diagram in physical manual if available).
  • Cleaning Impeller: Remove any debris, leaves, or string algae from the impeller and its housing. A soft brush can be used.
  • Cleaning Cage: Rinse the pump cage thoroughly to remove accumulated sludge and debris.

Winterization:

  • In regions where temperatures drop below freezing, remove the pump from the pond before the first frost.
  • Clean the pump thoroughly and store it in a frost-free location, submerged in a bucket of water to keep seals moist, or ensure it is completely dry.
