2.2 Attaching Filters (62mm)

This lens has a 62mm filter thread. To attach a filter (e.g., UV, CPL, FLD), gently screw it onto the front of the lens until it is snug. Do not overtighten.

2.3 Attaching the Lens Hood

Align the lens hood with the front of the lens and twist it until it locks into position. The lens hood helps to prevent flare and protect the front element.

3. Operating the Lens

3.1 Zooming

To adjust the focal length, rotate the zoom ring on the lens barrel. The lens covers a range from 18mm (wide-angle) to 270mm (telephoto).

3.2 Autofocus (PZD)

The Piezo Drive (PZD) autofocus system provides fast, quiet, and precise focusing. Ensure your camera's focus mode is set to AF (Autofocus). The lens also features a switch for AF/MF (Autofocus/Manual Focus) on its barrel.

3.3 Vibration Compensation (VC)

The Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism helps to reduce camera shake, allowing for sharper images when shooting handheld, especially in low light or at longer focal lengths. Activate the VC function using the switch on the lens barrel.

3.4 Macro Capability

This lens offers macro capability, allowing close focusing down to 19.3 inches (0.49m) throughout the zoom range, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5. This feature is ideal for capturing detailed close-up shots of small subjects.

3.5 Aperture Settings

The lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 at 18mm and f/6.3 at 270mm. The minimum aperture ranges from f/22 to f/40 depending on the focal length. Aperture is controlled via your camera body.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning the Lens

  • Use a blower brush to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surfaces.
  • For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft microfiber lens cloth. Breathe lightly on the lens surface before wiping if necessary.
  • For stubborn marks, apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to the microfiber cloth (never directly to the lens) and gently wipe in a circular motion from the center outwards.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials.

4.2 Storage

  • Always attach the front and rear lens caps when the lens is not in use.
  • Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If storing for extended periods, consider using a dehumidifying cabinet or silica gel packets to prevent mold growth.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Lens Not Focusing

  • Ensure the AF/MF switch on the lens is set to AF.
  • Check your camera's focus mode settings.
  • Clean the lens contacts on both the lens and camera body with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Ensure there is sufficient light for the autofocus system to operate effectively.

5.2 Images Appear Blurry or Shaky

  • Verify that the Vibration Compensation (VC) switch is turned ON if shooting handheld, especially at longer focal lengths or in low light.
  • Check your camera's shutter speed. A faster shutter speed may be needed to prevent motion blur.
  • Ensure the lens is securely attached to the camera body.
  • Clean the lens elements for any smudges or dust.

5.3 Lens Not Zooming Smoothly

  • Check for any obstructions around the zoom ring.
  • Ensure the zoom lock switch (if present) is disengaged.
