3. Setup: Customizing the Foam Interior

The Pelican Vault V800 comes with multi-layered foam inserts that can be customized to fit your equipment perfectly. This 'pick-and-pluck' foam allows you to create precise cutouts for your items, ensuring maximum protection and preventing movement during transport.

3.1 Foam Customization Steps:

  1. Plan Your Layout: Arrange your items on the foam to determine the optimal placement. Ensure sufficient foam padding around all sides of each item.
  2. Trace Your Items: Lightly trace the outline of your equipment onto the top layer of foam using a marker or chalk.
  3. Remove Foam Sections: Carefully pluck or cut out the foam sections along your traced lines. The foam is designed to be easily removed in small cubes, allowing for precise customization.
  4. Test Fit: Place your equipment into the newly created cutouts to ensure a snug and secure fit. Adjust as necessary.
  5. Layering: The case includes multiple foam layers. Ensure the bottom layer provides adequate cushioning and the top layer secures items from above when the case is closed.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and continued performance of your Pelican Vault case, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the polymer.
  • Seal Inspection: Periodically inspect the O-ring seal around the lid for any signs of wear, cracks, or debris. A clean, intact seal is crucial for maintaining the case's weather resistance.
  • Foam Care: The foam inserts can be gently vacuumed to remove dust or debris. If the foam becomes heavily soiled or damaged, replacement foam kits are available from Pelican.
  • Latch and Hasp Check: Ensure all latches operate smoothly and securely. Check the stainless steel lock hasps for any signs of corrosion or damage.

6. Troubleshooting

Most issues with your Pelican Vault case can be resolved with simple checks:

  • Lid Not Sealing Properly: Check the O-ring seal for any obstructions (dirt, debris) or damage. Clean the seal and the sealing channel thoroughly. Ensure all latches are fully engaged.
  • Latches Sticking: Clean the latch mechanisms. A small amount of silicone-based lubricant (avoid petroleum-based products) can be applied to the moving parts if necessary.
  • Foam Degradation: Over time, foam may compress or degrade. If the foam no longer provides adequate protection, consider purchasing a replacement foam set.
  • Wheels Not Rolling Smoothly: Check for debris lodged in the wheel axles. Clean as necessary.
