Important Safeguards
Please read all instructions thoroughly before operating the Breville BHM500XL Hand Mixer and retain them for future reference. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Do not immerse the motor unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Avoid contact with moving parts. Keep hands, hair, clothing, as well as spatulas and other utensils away from beaters during operation to prevent injury and/or damage to the mixer.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
- The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.
- This appliance is intended for household use only. Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
Components
The Breville BHM500XL Hand Mixer comes with the following components:
- Hand Mixer Body: Contains the motor, speed controls, and attachment ports.
- Flat Beaters (2): Ideal for general mixing tasks such as batters, cakes, and cookies.
- Wire Whisk (1): Designed for whipping cream, egg whites, and light mixtures.
- Dough Hooks (2): Suitable for kneading dough for bread and pastries.

Before First Use
- Unpack the hand mixer and all its components. Remove any packaging materials.
- Wash the flat beaters, wire whisk, and dough hooks in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. These attachments are also dishwasher-safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the hand mixer body with a clean, damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor unit in water.
Assembly
- Ensure the hand mixer is unplugged from the power outlet before attaching or removing any accessories.
- Select the appropriate attachments for your mixing task (flat beaters, wire whisk, or dough hooks).
- Insert the stems of the attachments into the openings on the underside of the mixer body. Push firmly until they click into place. For flat beaters and dough hooks, ensure the attachment with the collar is inserted into the larger opening.
- To remove attachments, press the EJECT button located on the mixer body, then pull the attachments out.
Operating Instructions
Powering On and Speed Control
- Plug the hand mixer into a 240V power outlet.
- Place the attachments into the ingredients you wish to mix.
- Turn the speed control knob to select your desired speed. The mixer offers 16 speeds, ranging from slow for gentle folding to high for whipping. The current speed setting will be displayed on the backlit LCD.
- To turn off the mixer, turn the speed control knob back to the '0' position.
Timer Function
The Breville BHM500XL features a backlit LCD with a timer function to help you track mixing duration precisely.
- The timer automatically starts counting up once the mixer is turned on (speed is greater than 0).
- The elapsed time is displayed on the LCD, allowing you to monitor your mixing process.
- The timer resets when the mixer is turned off or unplugged.
Turbo Boost
For an extra burst of power, press and hold the TURBO button. This will temporarily increase the mixing speed to its maximum setting, regardless of the current speed selected. Release the button to return to the previously selected speed.
Care and Cleaning
- Always unplug the hand mixer from the power outlet before cleaning.
- Remove all attachments by pressing the EJECT button.
- The flat beaters, wire whisk, and dough hooks are dishwasher-safe. Alternatively, wash them in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
- Wipe the exterior of the hand mixer body with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these may scratch the surface.
- Ensure all parts are completely dry before storing.
Troubleshooting
