This image shows the Kerbl 2130 Fever Thermometer. It features a blue flexible probe and a white main body with a large digital display. The display currently shows a temperature of 36.0°C. The thermometer is designed for easy and accurate temperature measurement.
Key Features
- Flexible Probe: Ensures comfortable and safe application.
- High Precision: Provides accurate temperature measurements.
- Fast Measurement: Delivers results in approximately 10 seconds.
- Indication Backlight: Display changes color (green for normal, red for fever range) for quick interpretation.
- Automatic Signal Tone: Alerts when measurement is complete.
- Last Value Storage: Recalls the previous temperature reading.
- Automatic Shut-off: Conserves battery power.
- Switchable Units: Easily switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
- Battery Change Indicator: Notifies when battery replacement is needed.
- Waterproof Design: Allows for easy cleaning and disinfection.
Setup
- Battery Installation: The thermometer requires one Lithium-Metal battery (CR2032). If the battery indicator shows low power or the device does not turn on, replace the battery. To replace, carefully open the battery compartment, insert the new battery with the correct polarity, and securely close the compartment. Ensure the small thin rubber ring inside the battery compartment is properly seated to maintain water resistance and proper contact.
- Initial Power On: Press the ON/OFF button located on the side of the rounded end of the thermometer. The display will briefly show all segments, followed by the last measured temperature, and then "Lo" with a flashing °C or °F, indicating it is ready for measurement.
- Unit Selection (°C/°F): While the thermometer is off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately 3 seconds until the unit changes from Celsius to Fahrenheit or vice versa. Release the button to set the desired unit.
Operating Instructions
- Preparation: Ensure the thermometer probe is clean and disinfected before each use.
- Power On: Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the thermometer.
- Positioning: Carefully insert the flexible probe into the measurement site. For animals, this typically involves rectal measurement.
- Measurement: Hold the thermometer steady during the measurement. The temperature reading will stabilize, and an automatic signal tone will sound when the measurement is complete (approximately 10 seconds). The display backlight will indicate the temperature range (green for normal, red for fever).
- Reading the Result: Read the temperature displayed on the large digital screen.
- Power Off: The thermometer will automatically shut off after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. You can also manually turn it off by pressing the ON/OFF button.
Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the thermometer probe with a soft cloth and a suitable disinfectant. The thermometer is waterproof, allowing for thorough cleaning.
- Storage: Store the thermometer in its protective case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the battery (CR2032) when the battery change indicator appears on the display. Ensure proper polarity and secure closure of the battery compartment to maintain water resistance.
- Avoid Soaking: While waterproof, do not soak the entire thermometer in liquid for extended periods. Hand wash only.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Thermometer does not turn on. | Dead or improperly installed battery. | Replace the battery (CR2032) ensuring correct polarity. Check that the battery compartment is securely closed and the rubber ring is in place. |
| "Lo" or "Hi" displayed. | "Lo" indicates a temperature below the measurable range or readiness for measurement. "Hi" indicates a temperature above the measurable range. | "Lo" is normal before measurement. Ensure the probe is correctly positioned for measurement. If "Hi" appears, the temperature is too high for the device's range. |
| Inaccurate or inconsistent readings. | Improper measurement technique, probe not fully inserted, or external factors affecting temperature. | Ensure the probe is clean and correctly positioned. Allow sufficient time for the measurement to complete (until signal tone). Avoid taking multiple measurements too quickly without allowing the probe to return to ambient temperature. |
| Battery indicator always low. | This can sometimes be a display characteristic or a minor issue with battery contact. | If the thermometer functions correctly despite the indicator, it may not be an issue. If performance is affected, try replacing the battery with a fresh one and ensure the battery compartment is tightly sealed. |
