1. Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Airflow Icon 15S Low Voltage Extractor Fan. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure safe and efficient operation.
The Airflow Icon 15S is a low voltage (12V DC) axial extractor fan designed for effective ventilation in domestic environments, including bathrooms and cloakrooms. It features a 100mm (4 inch) outlet and an iris shutter mechanism that opens when the fan is active and closes when off, preventing back draughts. The fan can be mounted either on a surface or recessed into a wall or ceiling and operates via a 12V DC transformer. Various optional control modules are available to enhance its functionality.

5. Installation
Installation should be carried out by a qualified professional. Ensure the power supply is disconnected before commencing work.

Figure 5.1: Diagrams illustrating various installation methods for the Airflow Icon 15S, including recessed and surface mounting on walls and ceilings, along with best practice recommendations for flexible ducting.
5.1 Wall Installation
Recessed Wall Mounting
- The iCON 15S requires a 110mm diameter hole through the wall.
- The hole should be lined with a 100mm internal diameter duct.
- Secure the fan within the prepared opening using appropriate fixings.
Surface Wall Mounting
- When surface mounting, use the supplied mounting skirt.
- The iCON 15S requires a 100mm internal diameter duct for connection.
- Ensure all vapor barriers are properly restored after installation.
5.2 Ceiling Installation
Recessed Ceiling Mounting
- The iCON 15S requires a 110mm diameter hole through the ceiling.
- The fan should be fitted into the hole and fixed with screws provided into the support structure.
Surface Ceiling Mounting
- When surface mounting, use the supplied mounting skirt.
- The fan is then fitted into the skirt and secured.
- For recessed or surface mounting in a ceiling, a plywood support (min. 18mm thick) must be mounted between the ceiling joists. Any fixing screws should be fitted through the plasterboard into the support.
5.3 Ducting Recommendations
- Where flexible ducting is used, the diameter must be maintained.
- It is good ventilation practice that the ducting is extended to a minimum of 90% its possible length in order to maintain the best possible airflow.
- Ensure that flexible duct connections are not overtightened to the spigots.
- To maximize airflow, rigid ducting should be used where possible.
- Fan and ducting installation must comply with the requirements of the Domestic Ventilation Compliance Guide and relevant Building Regulations.
6. Operating Instructions
The basic Airflow Icon 15S fan operates when power is supplied to its 12V DC transformer, typically controlled by a remote switch (e.g., a light switch). For advanced functionalities, optional plug-in modules are required.
6.1 Basic Operation
- When the fan receives power, the iris shutter will open, and the fan will begin to extract air.
- When power is removed, the fan will stop, and the iris shutter will close, preventing back draughts.
6.2 Operation with Optional Modules
Refer to Section 8, "Optional Modules," for details on specific module functionalities such as pull cord, timer, humidity sensor, and PIR motion detection.
7. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and efficient operation of your Airflow Icon 15S fan. Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning the Exterior: Wipe the exterior casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Cleaning the Iris Shutter and Blades: Carefully open the iris shutter (if possible, or remove the cover as per installation instructions) and gently clean any dust or debris from the shutter mechanism and fan blades using a soft brush or cloth. Ensure no foreign objects obstruct the shutter's movement.
- Inspection: Periodically check for any signs of damage to the casing, wiring, or fan components. If any damage is found, consult a qualified technician.
- Do not lubricate any part of the fan.
8. Optional Modules
The Airflow Icon 15S fan can be enhanced with various plug-in modules to provide additional control features. These modules are sold separately and are quick and easy to install.
