3. Product Components
The OBH Nordica SharpX Electric Knife Sharpener consists of the following main components:
- Sharpening Slots: Designated slots for knife insertion, typically with abrasive wheels.
- Power Switch: Controls the on/off function of the sharpener.
- Housing: The main body of the appliance, made of stainless steel and black plastic.
- Non-slip Feet: Located on the base to ensure stability during use.
4. Setup
- Unpack: Carefully remove the knife sharpener from its packaging. Retain packaging for storage or in case of return.
- Placement: Place the sharpener on a stable, flat, and dry surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for safe operation and knife handling.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the "OFF" position before plugging in.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect the sharpener for any visible damage. Do not use if damaged.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to sharpen your knives effectively:
- Prepare the Knife: Ensure the knife blade is clean and dry before sharpening.
- Power On: Turn the power switch to the "ON" position. The sharpening wheels will begin to rotate.
- Insert Knife: Hold the knife firmly by the handle. Insert the heel of the knife blade into the appropriate sharpening slot. The OBH Nordica SharpX features a coarse grain type for effective sharpening.
- Sharpening Motion: Gently pull the knife blade towards you, maintaining light, consistent downward pressure. Allow the sharpener to do the work. Do not push the knife into the slot forcefully.
- Repeat: Repeat this pulling motion 3-5 times for each side of the blade, alternating between slots if your sharpener has multiple stages (e.g., coarse and fine, though this model specifies coarse). For best results, ensure even sharpening on both sides of the blade.
- Check Sharpness: Carefully test the knife's sharpness on a piece of paper or a tomato. If not sufficiently sharp, repeat the sharpening process.
- Clean Knife: After sharpening, wipe the knife blade with a damp cloth to remove any metal filings before use.
- Power Off: Turn the power switch to the "OFF" position and unplug the sharpener from the outlet.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your sharpener.
- Always Unplug: Before cleaning, always ensure the sharpener is unplugged from the power outlet.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the sharpener with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scourers, as they may damage the finish.
- Internal Cleaning: Periodically, metal filings may accumulate inside the sharpening slots. Most electric sharpeners have a removable cover or tray for cleaning these filings. Refer to the product diagram or manufacturer's instructions for specific cleaning access. Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove debris.
- Do Not Immerse: Never immerse the sharpener in water or any other liquid.
- Storage: Store the sharpener in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your OBH Nordica SharpX, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sharpener does not turn on. | Not plugged in; power switch off; power outlet malfunction. | Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check the power switch is in the "ON" position. Test the outlet with another appliance. |
| Knives are not getting sharp. | Incorrect sharpening technique; worn sharpening wheels; knife too dull. | Review "Operating Instructions" (Section 5) for correct technique. Ensure consistent, light pressure. If wheels are worn, contact customer support for service. Very dull knives may require more passes. |
