Operating Instructions
Performing a Test
- Wait 15-20 Minutes: Before testing, wait at least 15-20 minutes after eating, drinking, or smoking. This allows any residual alcohol in your mouth to dissipate, ensuring an accurate sample from your lungs.
- Power On: Press and hold the power button located on the front of the device. The device will emit a short beep and begin a warm-up countdown.
- Prepare to Blow: Once the countdown reaches zero, the display will show "BLOW" and emit another beep. This indicates the device is ready for a breath sample.
- Provide Breath Sample: Take a deep breath and blow steadily and continuously into the mouthpiece for approximately 5 seconds, or until you hear a click sound. Ensure a consistent airflow.
- View Results: After a few seconds, your estimated Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) will be displayed on the screen. The result will remain on the screen for several seconds before the device automatically powers off.

Important Testing Considerations
- Do not test immediately after consuming alcohol, as this can lead to inaccurate high readings due to mouth alcohol.
- Avoid testing in areas with strong fumes, smoke, or other airborne contaminants.
- Allow at least 2-3 minutes between consecutive tests to ensure sensor accuracy and battery life.
- The device is designed for personal use and should not be used to determine fitness to drive or operate machinery.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Device
- Wipe the exterior of the breathalyzer with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Mouthpieces can be cleaned with warm, soapy water and air-dried, or replaced with new ones for optimal hygiene.
Battery Replacement
When the battery is low, the device may display a "Lo" message or fail to power on. Replace the AAA battery as described in the "Setup" section.
Recalibration
All breathalyzers, including BACtrack devices, require periodic recalibration to maintain accuracy. The frequency of recalibration depends on usage. For average use, recalibration is recommended every 6 months to 1 year. For daily use, it may be needed as often as once a month. Please refer to the official BACtrack website or contact customer support for recalibration services. Additional charges may apply for recalibration.
