Setup: Setting Your Combination

The Squire CP40 padlock comes with a factory preset combination, typically 0000. You can easily reset this to a personal combination of your choice. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Step 1: Open the Lock

Align the wheels to the current combination (factory default is 0000). Press the button on the bottom of the lock and open the shackle. Unscrew the small screw located at the top of the lock, near the shackle base. This screw secures the shackle in place during the combination setting process.

  2. Step 2: Set Your Desired Combination

With the shackle open and the screw unscrewed, press and hold the button at the bottom of the lock. While holding the button, move the combination wheels to your desired new code. Ensure the numbers are clearly aligned in the center.

  3. Step 3: Secure the Lock

Release the button and fasten the screw again at the top of the lock. Do not overtighten the screw. Close the shackle firmly.

  4. Step 4: Scramble the Wheels

Turn the wheels to hide your code. This secures the new combination.

  5. Step 5: Test Your New Combination

Enter your new code into the lock and press the button at the bottom of the lock to ensure it opens correctly. If it does not open, repeat the setup process from Step 1.

Maintenance

The Squire CP40 padlock is designed for durability and weather resistance. Regular, simple maintenance can help ensure its smooth operation and extend its lifespan.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the lock body and shackle with a clean, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, and grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Lubrication: For optimal performance, especially in harsh or outdoor environments, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant or graphite powder to the shackle mechanism and combination wheels once or twice a year. This helps prevent corrosion and ensures smooth movement. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the shackle and lock body for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. If significant damage is observed, consider replacing the padlock to maintain security.
