4. Operating Instructions
The BLACK+DECKER LHT2436 Hedge Trimmer is designed for efficient and comfortable trimming of hedges and shrubs.
4.1. Starting and Stopping the Trimmer
- To start, press the safety button located on the top handle and simultaneously squeeze the full-length trigger with the soft grip handle.
- To stop, release the trigger.
4.2. Trimming Techniques
The 24-inch dual-action blades cut branches fast with less vibration, and the PowerDrive transmission allows you to cut branches up to 3/4 inch wide.
- Horizontal Trimming: Hold the trimmer with both hands, keeping the blades parallel to the ground. Move the trimmer in a sweeping motion along the top of the hedge.
- Vertical Trimming: The swivel head allows for 90-degree rotation, enabling both vertical and horizontal trimming applications. Adjust the head as needed for comfortable and precise vertical cuts along the sides of hedges.
- Extended Reach: The 24-inch blade provides extended reach, making it easier to trim larger areas and hard-to-reach spots.

5. Maintenance
5.1. Blade Care
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your hedge trimmer, regular blade maintenance is essential.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the blades thoroughly to remove sap, leaves, and debris.
- Lubrication: Apply a few drops of lubricating oil (such as WD40 or a specialized chain oil) to the blades before and after each use. This helps prevent corrosion and ensures smooth operation.
- Storage: Always reattach the blade sheath before storing the trimmer to protect the blades and prevent accidental injury.

5.2. Battery Storage
Store the battery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the battery is fully charged before long-term storage.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your hedge trimmer, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Trimmer Not Starting: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Confirm that both the safety button and trigger are engaged simultaneously.
- Blades Jamming: If the blades become jammed by thick branches, release the trigger immediately. Remove the obstruction carefully. The PowerDrive transmission is designed to minimize stalling, but extreme conditions may still cause jams.
- Reduced Power/Run-time: Check the battery charge level. If the battery is old, its capacity may have diminished, requiring replacement.
