1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and proper installation, operation, and maintenance of the SIEMENS BQD320 circuit breaker. The BQD type circuit breakers feature 1-inch pole configurations and are available in 1, 2, or 3 pole construction. This specific model is a 3-pole breaker. Voltage ratings of 120, 240, 277, and 480Y/277V AC are supported. The BQD breaker is designed for panel board mounting and has a 14KAIC interrupting capacity.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Installation and servicing of this circuit breaker must be performed by qualified personnel only. Always disconnect power at the main service panel before working on electrical equipment. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death.
- Ensure all local and national electrical codes are followed.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Verify voltage and current ratings match the application.
- Do not use damaged or modified circuit breakers.

4. Setup and Installation
The SIEMENS BQD320 is a bolt-in circuit breaker designed for secure installation within compatible panel boards. Professional installation is mandatory to ensure safety and compliance with electrical standards.
- Power Disconnection: Before beginning any installation, ensure that all power to the panel board is completely disconnected and locked out according to safety procedures.
- Panel Preparation: Identify the appropriate slot in the panel board for the three-pole breaker. Ensure the bus bar connections are clean and free from debris.
- Breaker Placement: Align the circuit breaker with the bus bar connections in the panel. The bolt-in design requires the breaker to be securely fastened to the bus bar.
- Secure Connections: Use appropriate tools to tighten the bolts, ensuring a firm electrical connection. Refer to the panel board manufacturer's specifications for torque requirements.
- Wire Connections: Connect the load wires to the appropriate terminals on the circuit breaker. Ensure all wire insulation is intact and connections are tight.
- Verification: Double-check all connections and ensure the breaker is firmly seated and secured.
- Power Restoration: Once installation is complete and verified, restore power to the panel board.

5. Operating Instructions
The SIEMENS BQD320 circuit breaker operates as a protective device for electrical circuits.
- ON Position: To energize the circuit, push the handle firmly to the 'ON' position.
- OFF Position: To de-energize the circuit, push the handle firmly to the 'OFF' position.
- TRIPPED Position: If an overload or short circuit occurs, the breaker will automatically move to a 'TRIPPED' position, typically midway between 'ON' and 'OFF'. This indicates a fault in the circuit.
6. Maintenance
The SIEMENS BQD320 circuit breaker is designed for reliable, maintenance-free operation under normal conditions. However, periodic inspection by qualified personnel is recommended.
- Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the breaker for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
- Cleanliness: Ensure the area around the breaker is free from dust, dirt, and obstructions to allow for proper heat dissipation.
- No User Serviceable Parts: Do not attempt to open or repair the circuit breaker. Internal components are not user-serviceable.
7. Troubleshooting
If the circuit breaker trips, follow these steps:
- Identify Tripped Breaker: Locate the breaker with its handle in the 'TRIPPED' position.
- Disconnect Load: Disconnect or turn off all appliances and devices connected to the tripped circuit.
- Reset Breaker: Firmly push the breaker handle completely to the 'OFF' position, then firmly push it to the 'ON' position.
- Restore Load: Reconnect or turn on devices one by one to identify if a specific device caused the trip.
- Persistent Tripping: If the breaker trips immediately after resetting, or trips frequently, there may be a persistent overload, short circuit, or a fault within the electrical system. In such cases, contact a qualified electrician for diagnosis and repair. Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that continues to trip.
