Figure 1: Overview of the Intel DH55HC Desktop Motherboard. This image displays the blue PCB with the LGA 1156 CPU socket at the center-left, four blue and white DDR3 RAM slots to its right, various expansion slots (PCIe x16, PCIe x1, PCI) on the lower right, and the rear I/O panel connectors on the left edge.

3.3. CPU Installation

  1. Locate the LGA 1156 CPU socket on the motherboard.
  2. Gently push down the load lever and pull it to the side to open the CPU socket cover.
  3. Align the triangular mark on the CPU with the corresponding mark on the socket. Carefully place the CPU into the socket without forcing it.
  4. Close the socket cover and push the load lever back into its locked position.
  5. Apply thermal paste to the CPU and install the CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions.

3.4. RAM Installation

  1. Locate the four DDR3 DIMM slots.
  2. Open the clips at both ends of the DIMM slot.
  3. Align the notch on the DDR3 memory module with the key in the DIMM slot.
  4. Insert the memory module firmly into the slot until the clips snap into place. Ensure both clips are fully closed.

3.5. Storage Device Connection

  1. Connect SATA data cables from your storage devices (HDD/SSD) to the SATA ports on the motherboard.
  2. Connect the SATA power cables from your power supply to the storage devices.

3.6. Power Supply Connection

  1. Connect the 24-pin ATX main power connector from your power supply to the corresponding header on the motherboard.
  2. Connect the 4-pin or 8-pin ATX 12V CPU power connector to the appropriate header near the CPU socket.

3.7. Front Panel Connections

Connect the power button, reset button, HDD LED, power LED, and front panel USB/audio headers to their respective pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard's silkscreen labels for correct orientation.

3.8. Expansion Card Installation

Insert any necessary expansion cards (e.g., graphics card, sound card) into the appropriate PCIe x16, PCIe x1, or PCI slots. Secure them with screws to the chassis.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. First Boot

After assembling all components, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on the system. The system should display the BIOS POST screen. If not, refer to the troubleshooting section.

4.2. BIOS/UEFI Setup

During the POST process, press the designated key (usually DEL or F2) to enter the BIOS setup utility. Here you can configure boot order, system time, and other hardware settings. Save changes before exiting.

4.3. Driver Installation

After installing your operating system, install the necessary drivers for the chipset, audio, LAN, and any other integrated components. These drivers are typically provided on a support CD or can be downloaded from the Intel website.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning

Regularly clean dust from the motherboard and components using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning. Avoid using liquids or abrasive materials.

5.2. BIOS Updates

Periodically check the Intel support website for BIOS updates. BIOS updates can improve system stability, add support for new hardware, or fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided by Intel carefully when performing a BIOS update to avoid system damage.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check all power connections (24-pin ATX, 4/8-pin CPU, power button header). Ensure the power supply is switched on.
  • No Display: Verify the monitor is connected and powered on. Reseat the graphics card (if applicable) and RAM modules. Check if the CPU is properly seated.
  • System Instability/Crashes: This could be due to overheating, faulty RAM, or an unstable power supply. Check CPU and GPU temperatures. Test RAM modules individually.
  • Operating System Not Booting: Check boot order in BIOS. Ensure the storage drive with the OS is properly connected and functional.
  • Peripheral Issues: Ensure drivers are installed correctly. Test peripherals on another system if possible.
