Viqua SHO600-QL UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Combo Kit Instruction Manual

1. Product Overview

This manual provides instructions for the Viqua SHO600-QL UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Combo Kit. This kit is designed for use with Viqua UV systems including models SPV-12, SPV-600, SP600-HO, and SC/SCM-600. The ultraviolet (UV) lamp and quartz sleeve are critical components for maintaining the effectiveness of your UV water treatment system, ensuring proper disinfection by emitting specific UV intensity.

2. Product Components

The Viqua SHO600-QL kit includes the following genuine Viqua components:

  • One (1) Viqua UV Lamp: A high-output ultraviolet lamp with a proprietary stepped 4-pin configuration and a grey bulb base.
  • One (1) Quartz Sleeve: A protective glass sleeve that houses the UV lamp within the UV system chamber.

3. Important Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings before handling or installing the UV lamp and quartz sleeve.

  • Electrical Hazard: Always disconnect power to the UV system before performing any maintenance or installation.
  • UV Radiation: Do not look directly at an illuminated UV lamp. Exposure to UV light can cause severe eye and skin damage.
  • Fragile Components: The UV lamp and quartz sleeve are made of glass. Handle with extreme care to prevent breakage.
  • Hot Surfaces: The UV lamp and surrounding components can become hot during operation. Allow the system to cool before handling.

4. Installation Guidelines

These are general guidelines. Refer to your specific Viqua UV system's manual for detailed installation instructions.

  1. Disconnect Power: Turn off and unplug the UV system from its power source.
  2. Shut Off Water: Close the water supply valves to the UV system to prevent water flow.
  3. Drain System (if necessary): If replacing the quartz sleeve, drain the UV chamber to avoid water spillage.
  4. Remove Old Components: Carefully remove the old UV lamp and quartz sleeve according to your system's instructions. Dispose of old lamps responsibly.
  5. Install New Quartz Sleeve: If replacing, gently insert the new quartz sleeve into the UV chamber. Ensure the sleeve is properly seated and sealed with the provided O-rings and retaining nut. Avoid touching the glass directly; use clean gloves or a soft cloth.
  6. Install New UV Lamp: Carefully insert the new UV lamp into the quartz sleeve. Align the 4-pin connector with the lamp connector on the system's power supply. Push firmly until it clicks into place.
  7. Restore Water and Power: Slowly open the water supply valves. Check for leaks. Once confirmed, plug in and turn on the UV system.
  8. Verify Operation: Confirm the UV lamp indicator light is on, indicating proper lamp function.

5. Operation

Once installed and powered, the UV lamp emits ultraviolet light within the quartz sleeve. As water flows through the UV chamber, it is exposed to this UV light, which inactivates bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms without adding chemicals to the water. The system's ballast or controller typically includes an indicator light or alarm to confirm the lamp is operating correctly or if it requires attention.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the continuous effectiveness of your UV system.

  • UV Lamp Replacement: UV lamps have a limited effective life, typically 9,000 hours (approximately 12 months) of continuous operation. Even if the lamp appears to be glowing, its UV output diminishes over time. Replace the UV lamp annually to ensure consistent water disinfection.
  • Quartz Sleeve Cleaning: The quartz sleeve should be cleaned periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months, or as water quality dictates) to remove any mineral deposits or fouling that can reduce UV light transmission. If the sleeve cannot be cleaned effectively, it should be replaced.
  • Use Genuine Viqua Parts: Always use genuine Viqua replacement lamps and sleeves. Non-genuine or
