Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Teknetics T2LTD-BLK Special Edition Metal Detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
The Teknetics T2LTD-BLK is designed for advanced metal detection, offering exceptional depth and speed for coin shooting and relic hunting. It features dual DD search coils (5-inch and 11-inch) and trigger-actuated pinpointing for precise target location.
Important Safety Information
- Always exercise caution when digging to avoid underground utilities or hazardous objects.
- Do not operate the detector in thunderstorms or severe weather conditions.
- Keep the control housing dry. The search coils are waterproof, but the control housing is not.
- Use only recommended batteries.
- This device is heavy and may cause strain or injury if not handled properly. Maintain proper posture and take breaks during extended use.
Product Components
Your Teknetics T2LTD-BLK package includes the following main components:
- Control Housing with Display
- Upper Stem
- Lower Stem
- Armrest
- 11-inch DD Waterproof Search Coil
- 5-inch DD Waterproof Search Coil
- Coil Mounting Bolt and Washers

Setup and Assembly
- Attach the Search Coil:
Secure the desired search coil (11-inch or 5-inch DD) to the lower stem using the provided non-metallic bolt and washers. Ensure it is snug but do not overtighten.
- Assemble the Stems:
Insert the lower stem into the upper stem. Adjust the length to a comfortable position for your height, ensuring the search coil is parallel to the ground when held naturally.
- Mount the Control Housing:
Slide the control housing onto the upper stem. The armrest should be positioned to support your forearm comfortably.
- Connect the Coil Cable:
Wrap the search coil cable securely around the stem, leaving enough slack for coil movement. Plug the connector into the receptacle on the control housing. Ensure the connection is firm.
- Install Batteries:
The T2LTD-BLK requires 4 AA batteries. Open the battery compartment on the control housing and insert the batteries, observing proper polarity. Close the compartment securely.

Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
To power on the detector, press and hold the MENU button. To power off, press and hold the MENU button again until the display turns off.
Basic Operation Modes
- All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal. Ideal for finding deeply buried targets or when the target material is unknown.
- Discrimination Mode: Allows the user to filter out unwanted metals (e.g., iron) and focus on specific target types.
Key Settings
- Sensitivity: Adjusts the detector's ability to detect targets. Higher sensitivity increases depth but can also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
- Discrimination Level: Sets the rejection level for unwanted metals. Higher levels reject more ferrous items.
- Ground Balance: Essential for stable operation in mineralized soil. The T2LTD-BLK features manual ground balance. Refer to the detailed manual for specific ground balancing procedures.
- Number of Tones: Selects the audio tone response for different target IDs.
Trigger-Actuated Pinpointing
To pinpoint a target, center the search coil over the detected object. Pull and hold the trigger located under the control housing. Slowly move the coil in a cross-pattern over the target. The audio tone will peak, and the target ID will stabilize when the coil is directly over the center of the object.
Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: Wipe down the detector with a damp cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
- Coil Care: The search coils are waterproof and can be rinsed with fresh water. Ensure the coil cable connection to the control housing remains dry.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries | Replace batteries, check polarity. |
| Erratic signals/False signals | High sensitivity, poor ground balance, electromagnetic interference (EMI) | Reduce sensitivity, re-ground balance, move away from power lines or other electronics. |
| No target audio | Volume too low, headphones unplugged/faulty | Increase volume, check headphone connection, try different headphones. |
| Poor depth detection | Low sensitivity, incorrect ground balance, highly mineralized soil | Increase sensitivity, re-ground balance, consider using a smaller coil in highly mineralized areas. |
