5. Installation
Follow these steps to properly install your Ideal Security BK110W Sliding Door Security Bar.
5.1 Pre-Installation Checks
- Door Operation: Ensure your patio door opens and closes smoothly before installation.
- Determine Bar Height: Choose an installation height that does not interfere with the door handle and allows the bar to be stored vertically when fully extended. If the bar does not fit vertically when fully extended, lower the installation position. Alternatively, you can retract the bar before storing it vertically.

- Check Release Lever: When positioning the security bar, ensure the release lever is always facing upwards.

Figure 4: Release Lever and Locking Tab
- Determine Saddle Placement: The saddle is wider than the rotating bracket. Do not install the rotating bracket too close to the edge of the door frame, as this will prevent the saddle from aligning properly.
- Check Clearance for Drill: When choosing the placement for the rotating bracket, ensure your drill will clear the glass to avoid damage.
5.2 Mounting the Rotating Bracket
- Position the rotating bracket on the door frame at your desired height.
- Use a pencil to mark the center of the two screw holes on the door frame.
- Using a 1/8" drill bit, drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Apply light but firm bursts of pressure.
- To help hold the bracket in place, extend the bar slightly.
- Fasten the rotating bracket to the door frame using the two included truss head tapping screws. Start with the top screw, then lift the bracket to reveal the bottom hole and screw it in.
5.3 Mounting the Saddle
- Place the bar end inside the support saddle and extend the bar towards the door frame.
- Use a level to ensure the proper height, then mark the holes using a pencil.
- Drill pilot holes for the saddle. Use tape on the drill bit to mark the length of the screw to avoid drilling too deep and hitting the glass.
- Screw in the saddle using the three flat head tapping screws.
5.4 Installing the Optional Anti-Lift Lock
The anti-lift lock provides enhanced security by preventing the bar from being raised without first pushing in on the spring clip.
- Determine whether you want to install the optional anti-lift lock.
- If installing in standard orientation, use the top holes on the anti-lift lock to secure it in place.
- For alternate orientation, use the bottom holes to secure the anti-lift lock.
- When installing the saddle in this orientation, do not drill too deep to avoid hitting any glass.

- Ensure the door is closed or open to the desired ventilation width.
- Lower the security bar from its vertical storage position.
- Extend the bar by pressing the release lever and pulling the bar until it firmly rests in the saddle bracket.
- If the anti-lift lock is installed, ensure the bar is securely seated, preventing it from being lifted without pressing the spring clip.
To disengage and store the security bar:
- If the anti-lift lock is engaged, press the spring clip inwards.
- Press the release lever and retract the bar from the saddle.
- Pivot the bar upwards to its vertical storage position.
7. Maintenance
The Ideal Security BK110W Sliding Door Security Bar requires minimal maintenance. Periodically check all screws and mounting points to ensure they remain tight. Clean the bar and brackets with a soft, damp cloth as needed to remove dust and grime. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
8. Troubleshooting
- Bar does not extend/retract smoothly: Ensure the release lever is fully pressed when adjusting the length. Check for any obstructions in the sliding mechanism.
- Bar does not fit securely in saddle: Verify that the saddle and rotating bracket are installed at the correct height and alignment. Re-check measurements and pilot hole positions if necessary.
- Anti-lift lock not engaging: Ensure the bar is fully extended into the saddle and the anti-lift mechanism is clear of debris.
