Introduction
The Kershaw Chive series features Kershaw's SpeedSafe ambidextrous opening system for smooth, easy opening by both right and left-handed users. Closed, the Chive is less than three inches long, perfect for pocket carry. This Chive has a handsome Damascus layered steel blade, formed by hammering several different steels together, folding them over, and repeating the process until a multitude of layers is achieved. All Chives also feature the Safety Tip Lock to ensure the blade stays securely inside the handle until the user releases it, and a removable pocket clip for easy carrying. The Chive may be the smallest member of the "Onion" family, but it's got all the advanced features knife users demand.
Safety Information
WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Always handle sharp objects with extreme care. Keep out of reach of children. Ensure the blade is securely locked when open and fully closed when not in use.
Setup
Your Kershaw Chive knife comes ready for immediate use. Upon receiving your knife, carefully remove it from its packaging. Inspect the blade and handle for any signs of damage or manufacturing defects. Familiarize yourself with the knife's features before first use.
- Unboxing: Carefully open the packaging and remove the knife.
- Initial Inspection: Check the blade for sharpness and ensure the locking mechanism operates smoothly.
- Familiarization: Practice opening and closing the knife in a safe environment to understand its SpeedSafe assisted opening and Safety Tip Lock.
Operating Instructions
The Kershaw Chive features an ambidextrous SpeedSafe assisted opening system for quick and easy deployment. It also includes a Safety Tip Lock for secure storage.
- Opening the Blade:
- Locate the thumb stud or the flipper tab (the small protrusion on the back of the blade).
- Apply slight pressure to the thumb stud or flipper tab. The SpeedSafe mechanism will assist the blade in opening rapidly and locking into place.
- Closing the Blade:
- The Chive uses a Frame Lock mechanism. To close, push the frame lock bar (the part of the handle that moves to secure the blade) to the side, disengaging it from the blade.
- Carefully fold the blade back into the handle until it is fully closed.
- Using the Safety Tip Lock:
- When the blade is fully closed, slide the Safety Tip Lock mechanism (a small lever or button near the pivot) to engage it. This prevents accidental opening.
- To open the knife, disengage the Safety Tip Lock first.
- Pocket Clip: The removable pocket clip allows for secure and convenient carry. You can attach it to your pocket, belt, or gear.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your Kershaw Chive knife.
- Cleaning: After each use, especially if exposed to moisture or debris, clean the blade and handle with a damp cloth. For thorough cleaning, use mild soap and water, then dry immediately.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of high-quality knife oil to the pivot area to ensure smooth opening and closing.
- Sharpening: The Damascus steel blade will maintain its edge well. When sharpening is needed, use a sharpening system appropriate for high-carbon steel blades. Maintain the original blade angle for best results.
- Storage: Store your knife in a dry environment to prevent rust. Ensure the blade is fully closed and the Safety Tip Lock is engaged.
