Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the proper use, fitting, maintenance, and care of your Giro Aeon Cycling Helmet. The Aeon helmet is designed for road cycling, offering a lightweight, comfortable, and well-ventilated experience.

Safety Information

• This helmet is designed for cycling only. It is not intended for motor sports or other activities.
• A helmet cannot protect against all possible impacts. Severe injuries or death can occur.
• Always wear your helmet correctly fitted and securely fastened.
• Inspect your helmet regularly for damage. If the helmet has sustained an impact, even if no visible damage is present, it should be replaced.
• Do not modify the helmet or use solvents, paints, or decals, as these can compromise its protective capabilities.

Setup and Initial Fitting

Proper fit is crucial for helmet safety and comfort. Follow these steps to ensure your Aeon helmet fits correctly.

1. Positioning the Helmet: Place the helmet squarely on your head. It should sit level, covering your forehead. The front edge should be approximately one to two finger-widths above your eyebrows.
2. Adjusting the Roc Loc 5 Fit System: The Giro Aeon features the Roc Loc 5 fit system for precise adjustment.

   Locate the dial at the back of the helmet. Turn the dial clockwise to tighten the fit system, drawing the helmet snugly around your head. Turn it counter-clockwise to loosen. Adjust until the helmet feels secure without being uncomfortably tight. The helmet should not move excessively when you shake your head.

3. Adjusting the Chin Straps:

   The chin straps should form a "V" shape just below your ears. Adjust the sliders on the straps to achieve this position.

   Fasten the buckle under your chin. Tighten the strap until it is snug, allowing only one to two fingers to fit between the strap and your chin. Ensure the strap is not too tight, which could cause discomfort, or too loose, which could allow the helmet to shift during an impact.

4. Final Check:

   With the straps buckled and tightened, try to roll the helmet forward and backward. It should not move more than an inch in either direction.

   Open your mouth wide. The chin strap should pull down slightly on the helmet. If it does not, tighten the chin strap further.

Operating the Helmet

Once properly fitted, wearing your Giro Aeon helmet is straightforward.

• Wearing: Always wear your helmet for every ride, regardless of distance or speed.
• Ventilation: The Aeon helmet features 24 Wind Tunnel vents designed to optimize airflow and keep your head cool during rides. These vents are integral to the helmet's design and do not require manual adjustment.
• Comfort Pads: The helmet includes removable EPS sweat-absorbing liners. An extra set of pads is provided for convenience.

Maintenance and Care

• Cleaning: Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth, mild soap, and water. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the helmet's materials and finish.
• Pad Cleaning: The internal comfort pads can be removed and hand-washed with mild soap and water. Allow them to air dry completely before reinserting them into the helmet.
• Storage: Store your helmet in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not store it in a car on a hot day, as excessive heat can damage the EPS liner.
• Inspection: Regularly inspect the helmet for any signs of damage, such as cracks in the shell or foam, frayed straps, or a malfunctioning fit system.
• Replacement: If your helmet sustains an impact, even if there is no visible damage, it should be replaced immediately. The internal structure may be compromised, reducing its protective capability. Giro recommends replacing helmets every three to five years, or sooner if signs of wear and tear are evident.

Troubleshooting

Helmet feels too loose or too tight:

Adjust the Roc Loc 5 dial at the back of the helmet. Turn clockwise to tighten, counter-clockwise to loosen. Ensure the chin straps are also adjusted correctly.

Chin strap is uncomfortable or rubs:

Ensure the strap sliders are positioned correctly, forming a "V" shape just below your ears. Adjust the strap length so it is snug but not overly tight.

Helmet makes noise at high speeds:

Some riders may experience a slight wind noise due to the ventilation design. This is normal and indicates effective airflow. Ensure all straps are snug to prevent any rattling.

Warranty Information

Any Giro helmet determined by Giro to be defective in materials or workmanship within one (1) year from the date of original purchase will be repaired or replaced, at Giro’s option, free of charge when received at the factory freight prepaid, together with proof of purchase. This warranty does not cover damage due to misuse, abuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or normal wear and tear.
