2. General Safety Instructions
Always observe the following safety precautions when operating power tools to prevent electric shock, fire, and serious injury.
- Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use hearing protection when operating the tool for extended periods. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
- Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
- Battery Tool Use and Care: Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.

- To Remove: Press the battery release buttons (typically located on the sides of the battery pack) and slide the battery out of the tool.
4.3 Installing/Removing Drill Bits or Driver Bits
- Ensure the tool is switched off and the forward/reverse selector is in the center (locked) position to prevent accidental starting.
- Rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws.
- Insert the drill bit or driver bit fully into the chuck.
- Rotate the chuck collar clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Hand-tighten firmly.
- To Remove: Rotate the chuck collar counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and pull the bit out.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off and Speed Control
- The tool is powered on by pressing the trigger switch. The speed is variable and controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the trigger.
- To turn off the tool, release the trigger switch.
5.2 Forward/Reverse Rotation
- The forward/reverse selector switch is located above the trigger.
- Push the selector to the left for forward rotation (drilling/driving screws in).
- Push the selector to the right for reverse rotation (removing screws).
- For safety, place the selector in the center position to lock the trigger and prevent accidental starting when not in use or when changing bits.
5.3 Torque Adjustment
The Hilti SFC 18-A CPC features a torque adjustment collar located behind the chuck. Rotate this collar to select the desired torque setting. Lower numbers are for smaller screws or softer materials, while higher numbers provide more torque for larger screws or harder materials. The drill symbol typically indicates maximum torque for drilling applications.

5.4 Drilling and Screwdriving Tips
- Always secure your workpiece to prevent movement.
- Apply steady, even pressure. Avoid excessive force, which can damage the bit or the workpiece.
- For drilling, start with a slow speed to create a pilot hole, then increase speed as needed.
- For screwdriving, select a torque setting appropriate for the screw size and material to prevent overtightening or stripping.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Regularly clean the ventilation slots on the tool to prevent overheating. Use a dry brush or compressed air.
- Wipe the tool's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Keep the chuck jaws free of dust and debris to ensure proper bit gripping.
6.2 Battery Care and Storage
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not store fully discharged batteries for extended periods. Charge them periodically if not in use.
- Avoid exposing batteries to water or moisture.
6.3 General Storage
Store the drill/driver and its accessories in a secure, dry location, out of reach of children and unauthorized users.
