1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your Johnson Pump Aqua Jet WPS 2.9 GPM water pressure system. Please read these instructions carefully before installation and use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the pump. This pump is designed for fresh water applications, typically in marine or RV environments, providing a reliable water supply.
2. Safety Information
- Electrical Safety: Always disconnect power before installing, servicing, or performing any maintenance on the pump. Ensure all electrical connections are made by a qualified technician and comply with local regulations.
- Voltage: This pump operates on 12V DC. Connecting it to an incorrect voltage supply will damage the pump and void the warranty.
- Water Temperature: Do not pump liquids hotter than 50°C (122°F).
- Freezing: Protect the pump from freezing temperatures. Freezing water inside the pump can cause severe damage.
- Mounting: Mount the pump in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Flammable Liquids: Do not use this pump to transfer flammable liquids.

4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Mounting
- Choose a location that is dry, easily accessible for maintenance, and protected from freezing.
- Mount the pump on a solid, flat surface using the provided mounting screws. The pump can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
- Ensure there is adequate space around the pump for air circulation and hose connections.
4.2 Plumbing Connections
- Connect the inlet hose from your water tank to the pump's inlet port. Use appropriate NPT fittings and ensure all connections are watertight.
- Connect the outlet hose from the pump's outlet port to your water distribution system.
- It is recommended to install a strainer/filter on the inlet side to prevent debris from entering the pump.
- Use flexible hoses to minimize vibration and noise. Avoid kinks or sharp bends in the hoses.
4.3 Electrical Connections
- Connect the pump to a 12V DC power source.
- Ensure the wiring gauge is sufficient for the pump's current draw and the length of the wire run. Refer to a wiring diagram if available.
- Install an appropriate fuse in the positive (+) power line, close to the battery, to protect the circuit.
- Connect the positive (+) wire from the pump to the fused positive (+) terminal of the power source.
- Connect the negative (-) wire from the pump to the negative (-) terminal of the power source.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Priming the Pump
- Ensure the water tank has sufficient water.
- Open all faucets in the system to allow air to escape.
- Turn on the pump's power supply. The pump will start running and draw water.
- Allow the pump to run until a steady stream of water flows from all faucets and all air has been purged from the system.
- Close the faucets. The pump should build pressure and then shut off automatically.
5.2 Normal Operation
- The pump is designed to operate automatically, turning on when a faucet is opened and pressure drops, and turning off when the faucet is closed and pressure is restored.
- Monitor the water level in your tank to prevent the pump from running dry, which can cause damage.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Regular Checks
- Periodically inspect all hose connections for leaks and tighten if necessary.
- Check electrical connections for corrosion or loose wiring.
- Clean the inlet strainer/filter regularly to ensure unrestricted water flow to the pump.
6.2 Winterization
- Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump and plumbing system.
- Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump.
- Run the pump briefly (a few seconds) to expel any remaining water. Do not run dry for extended periods.
- Alternatively, pump non-toxic antifreeze through the system according to the antifreeze manufacturer's instructions.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not run | No power, blown fuse, loose wiring, faulty switch | Check power supply, replace fuse, tighten connections, test switch |
| Pump runs but no water flow | No water in tank, air leak on inlet side, clogged strainer, pump not primed | Fill tank, check inlet connections, clean strainer, prime pump |
| Low flow or pressure | Clogged strainer, restricted plumbing, low voltage, worn pump head | Clean strainer, check hoses for kinks, verify 12V supply, inspect pump head |
| Pump cycles on and off rapidly (short cycling) | Air in system, small leak in plumbing, faulty pressure switch | Bleed air from system, check for leaks, inspect/replace pressure switch |
| Excessive noise/vibration | Loose mounting, air in system, debris in pump, worn bearings | Secure mounting, bleed air, clean pump, contact support for repair |
