Installation Instructions

Mounting the Transformer

Mount the transformer in a suitable outdoor location, ensuring it is not submerged in water. The black polymeric enclosure is designed to resist corrosion. Securely fasten the unit to a stable surface, such as a wall.

Wiring Connections

Use the easy-connect terminal blocks for wiring your landscape lighting system. Ensure all connections are secure and comply with local electrical codes. Refer to the wiring diagram provided with your lighting fixtures for specific connection points.

Calculating Voltage Drop

Voltage drop can affect lamp brightness, especially over longer wire runs. To minimize voltage drop and maximize light output, keep wire runs as short as possible. Use the following equation to calculate voltage drop for your system:

A (length of wire in feet) x B (total watts for all lamps on that wire run) = C (cable constant)

Cable Constants by Wire Gauge:

  • 10 gauge: 11920
  • 12 gauge: 7500 (Maximum 250 watts or 200 feet)
  • 14 gauge: 3500 (Maximum 200 watts or 150 feet)
  • 16 gauge: 2200 (Maximum 150 watts or 100 feet)
  • 18 gauge: 1380

Operating Instructions

The transformer features a built-in timer and photocell, along with an ON/OFF/AUTO switch for flexible control of your landscape lighting system.

Control Settings:

  • ON: Provides continuous power to the connected lighting system. Lights will remain on until manually switched off.
  • OFF: Disables power to the lighting system. Lights will remain off.
  • AUTO: Activates the photocell and timer functions. The lights will automatically turn on at dusk and operate according to the selected timer setting.

Timer Settings:

When the switch is set to AUTO, adjust the timer dial to select the desired duration for the lights to remain on after dusk. Common settings include 2 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours. The lights will automatically turn off after the set duration or at dawn, whichever comes first.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Kichler transformer, perform the following maintenance tasks:

  • Regularly inspect the transformer casing and all wiring for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion.
  • Keep the unit clean and free from dirt, leaves, and other debris that could obstruct ventilation or the photocell.
  • Ensure the photocell is not obstructed by plants, structures, or other objects to allow for proper automatic operation.
  • Periodically check all electrical connections to ensure they remain tight and secure.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your transformer, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

Lights Not Turning On:

  • Verify the transformer is receiving power from the main electrical supply.
  • Ensure the ON/OFF/AUTO switch is in the correct position (ON or AUTO).
  • If in AUTO mode, check that the photocell is not obstructed and that ambient light conditions are dark enough for activation.
  • Inspect your home's electrical panel for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses.
  • Examine all wiring connections for looseness, damage, or corrosion.

Lights Dim or Flickering:

  • Check for excessive voltage drop in your wiring. Refer to the "Calculating Voltage Drop" section in this manual.
  • Ensure the total wattage of all connected lamps does not exceed the transformer's 60W capacity.
  • Inspect for damaged wiring, faulty lamp sockets, or defective lamps.

Transformer Not Responding:

  • The unit has automatic reset functionality for overload protection. If an overload occurs, disconnect power to the transformer, wait a few minutes, and then reconnect. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
