H-Tronic WPS 1000 Water Level Sensor

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The H-Tronic WPS 1000 Water Level Sensor is designed for automatic monitoring and control of water levels. Whether it's an open basement window during heavy rain, an unsupervised washing machine with faulty hoses, or an overflowing sink, these scenarios require monitoring and timely action to prevent significant damage. This universal water level sensor provides security by activating pumps, warning devices, or solenoid valves when a predefined water level is reached, ensuring tanks are filled or emptied as required.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Read this instruction manual completely before operating the device.
  • Only connect the device to the specified voltage of 230V AC.
  • Installation should be performed by qualified personnel if you are unsure about electrical connections.
  • Do not open the device housing; there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Keep the device and its components out of reach of children.
  • Ensure the sensor cable is not damaged or pinched, as this could affect functionality or pose a safety risk.
  • Do not expose the main control unit to moisture or direct water contact. It is designed for indoor, dry environments.

4. Product Overview

4.1 Control Unit

H-Tronic WPS 1000 Control Unit

The main control unit houses the electronics, power input, load output, and sensor input. It features two indicator LEDs: a green 'Netz' (Mains Power) LED to indicate power supply, and a red 'Rel. Ein' (Relay On) LED to indicate when the output relay is active and the connected device is powered.

4.2 Water Level Sensor

H-Tronic WPS 1000 Water Level Sensor Probe

The water level sensor is a robust, cylindrical probe with two electrodes designed to detect the presence of water. It connects to the control unit via a two-wire cable, which can be extended up to 20 meters for flexible placement.

4.3 Dimensions and Components Diagram

H-Tronic WPS 1000 Wall Mount and Sensor Dimensions Diagram

This diagram illustrates the dimensions of the wall mount bracket and the water sensor. The sensor measures approximately 72 mm in length and 20 mm in diameter, with electrodes extending about 25 mm. The cable length shown in the diagram is 10m, but it can be extended up to 20m.

5. Installation

5.1 Mounting the Control Unit

  1. Choose a dry, protected location for the control unit, away from direct moisture or splashing water.
  2. Mount the unit securely to a wall using appropriate screws and wall plugs. The unit is designed for wall mounting.

5.2 Connecting the Water Level Sensor

  1. Connect the two-wire cable from the water level sensor to the designated sensor input terminals on the control unit. Ensure a secure connection.
  2. The sensor cable can be extended up to 20 meters using a standard two-wire cable if needed.
  3. Position the sensor at the exact water level where you want the switching action to occur. The switching point is determined by the sensor's physical placement.

5.3 Connecting the Load

  1. Plug the device you wish to control (e.g., pump, alarm, solenoid valve) into the output socket of the WPS 1000 control unit.
  2. Ensure that the total power consumption of the connected load does not exceed 1000W.

5.4 Power Connection

  1. Plug the WPS 1000 control unit into a standard 230V AC power outlet.

6. Operation

  1. Power On: Once connected to power, the green 'Netz' (Mains Power) LED on the control unit will illuminate, indicating that the unit is receiving power.
  2. Water Level Detection: When water reaches the electrodes of the sensor, the unit detects the presence of water.
  3. Switching Action: The red 'Rel. Ein' (Relay On) LED will illuminate, and the internal relay will activate. This will power the device connected to the output socket (e.g., a pump will start, an alarm will sound).
  4. Configurable Output: The switching output can be configured for either activation upon water presence (e.g., pump out a flooded area) or activation upon water absence (e.g., fill a tank when it's empty). Refer to the device's internal settings or specific model variant for configuration details if applicable.
  5. Automatic Operation with Hysteresis: The unit features a switching hysteresis to prevent rapid on/off cycling due to minor water level fluctuations. If used for pumping out, the unit will continue to operate the pump for approximately 20 seconds after the water level drops below the sensor, ensuring more complete drainage.
  6. No Dangerous Voltage on Sensor: The sensor operates with low voltage, ensuring safety even when submerged.

7. Maintenance

  • Sensor Cleaning: Regularly inspect the sensor electrodes for any dirt, mineral deposits, or algae growth. Clean them gently with a soft brush or cloth if necessary to ensure accurate detection.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check the sensor cable for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Replace the cable if any damage is found.
  • Control Unit Care: Ensure the control unit remains dry and free from dust. Wipe the exterior with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on (Green 'Netz' LED off):
    • Check if the power cable is securely plugged into the wall outlet and the control unit.
    • Verify that the wall outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
  • Connected load not activating (Red 'Rel. Ein' LED off when water is present):
    • Ensure the green 'Netz' LED is illuminated.
    • Check if the water level sensor is properly connected to the control unit.
    • Verify that water is actually reaching both electrodes of the sensor.
    • Inspect the sensor electrodes for dirt or deposits and clean them if necessary.
    • Ensure the connected load (pump, alarm) is functional by testing it directly in a wall outlet.
    • Confirm the connected load's power consumption does not exceed 1000W.
  • False alarms or incorrect switching:
    • Clean the sensor electrodes thoroughly.
    • Ensure the sensor is positioned correctly and not in an area prone to splashing or intermittent water contact that could cause false readings.
    • Check for any damage to the sensor cable or potential electrical interference.
