2. Setup

Charging the Battery
- Insert the battery into the supplied charger.
- Connect the charger to a power outlet using the power cord.
- The charge indicator lamp will illuminate during charging and turn off when charging is complete.
Inserting the Battery and Memory Card
- Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the charged battery with the correct orientation until it locks into place.
- Insert a compatible memory card (Memory Stick PRO Duo/PRO-HG Duo or SD/SDHC/SDXC Class 4 or higher) into the card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is facing the correct direction.
- Close the battery/memory card cover securely.
Attaching a Lens
- Remove the body cap from the camera and the rear lens cap from the lens.
- Align the white index mark on the lens with the white index mark on the camera body.
- Mount the lens by turning it clockwise until it clicks into place.

3. Operating the Camera
Power On/Off
To turn the camera on or off, rotate the power switch located around the shutter button.
Selecting a Shooting Mode
The mode dial on the top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes:

- AUTO+: Advanced Auto mode for simplified shooting.
- P (Program Auto): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed, you control other settings.
- A (Aperture Priority): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
- S (Shutter Priority): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
- M (Manual Exposure): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
- SCN (Scene Selection): Pre-set modes for specific scenes (e.g., Portrait, Landscape).
- Movie Mode: For recording videos.
- Sweep Panorama: For capturing wide panoramic images.
- 3D: For shooting 3D images.
Using the Viewfinder and LCD Monitor
The camera features both an XGA OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder and a 3-way tilt/swivel LCD monitor.

You can switch between the viewfinder and LCD using the DISP button or by configuring the eye sensor. The LCD monitor can be tilted and swiveled for comfortable shooting from various angles, including self-portraits.

Autofocus System
The SLT-A77 features a 19-point autofocus system with 11 cross sensors, providing fast and accurate focusing, even with moving subjects. Translucent Mirror Technology allows continuous AF during both still and video recording.
Recording Videos
To record a video, set the mode dial to the movie icon. Press the MOVIE button to start and stop recording. The camera supports Full HD (1920x1080) video at 60p, 60i, or 24p in AVCHD format, and MP4 for web-friendly files. Full manual control (P/A/S/M) is available in movie mode.

4. Maintenance
Cleaning the Camera
- Camera Body: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild detergent, then wipe dry.
- Lens and Viewfinder: Use a lens blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
- Image Sensor: The camera has an Advanced Anti-Dust Technology system. If dust spots persist, use the camera's cleaning function or consult a service center.
Storage
When not in use for an extended period, remove the battery and store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use a desiccant to prevent mold growth.

- Images are blurry: Check focus mode (AF/MF), ensure sufficient lighting, and verify SteadyShot INSIDE is active if needed. Clean the lens.
- Memory card error: Ensure the memory card is correctly inserted and compatible. Try formatting the card (this will erase all data).
- Flash does not fire: Check flash mode settings. Ensure the subject is within flash range.
- Video recording stops unexpectedly: Ensure the memory card has sufficient free space and is Class 4 or higher for video recording.
