3.2. Initial Setup and Oiling

Before first use, ensure the machine is properly oiled. The JUKI DDL-8700-Servo has an automatic lubrication system. Check the oil level in the oil pan located beneath the machine head. Fill with recommended sewing machine oil if the level is below the 'LOW' mark.

The machine is designed to be quiet and smooth due to its servo motor. Ensure the power switch is easily accessible.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Powering On/Off

Locate the power switch, typically on the underside of the table near the motor. Flip the switch to the 'ON' position to power the machine. To turn off, flip the switch to 'OFF'.

4.2. Bobbin Winding

The machine features a bobbin winder on the top right side of the machine head. Follow these steps to wind a bobbin:

  1. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
  2. Guide the thread from the spool through the tension disc of the bobbin winder.
  3. Wrap the thread a few times around the bobbin.
  4. Push the bobbin winder unit towards the handwheel until it engages.
  5. Press the foot pedal to start winding. The winder will stop automatically when the bobbin is full.

4.3. Threading the Machine

Correct threading is crucial for proper stitch formation. Refer to the diagram on the machine head for the exact threading path. General steps include:

  1. Place the thread spool on the thread stand.
  2. Guide the thread through the upper thread guides.
  3. Pass the thread through the tension discs and around the take-up lever.
  4. Thread through the lower thread guides and finally through the needle eye from front to back.
  5. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case and then into the shuttle hook assembly beneath the needle plate. Ensure the thread is correctly routed through the bobbin case tension spring.

4.4. Stitch Length Adjustment

The stitch length can be adjusted using the dial on the right side of the machine head. Rotate the dial to select the desired stitch length, typically ranging up to 5mm.

4.5. Sewing Operation

With the machine threaded and bobbin in place, lower the presser foot using the knee lifter or lever. Gently press the foot pedal to begin sewing. The servo motor provides precise speed control, allowing for slow, controlled stitching or high-speed production.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your JUKI DDL-8700-Servo machine.

5.1. Cleaning

  • Daily: Remove lint and dust from the needle plate, feed dogs, and bobbin area using a small brush.
  • Weekly/Bi-weekly: Clean the entire machine surface. Remove the needle plate and clean thoroughly underneath, including the hook area.

5.2. Oiling

The machine has an automatic oiling system. Regularly check the oil level in the oil pan. The oil level should be between the 'HIGH' and 'LOW' marks. If it falls below 'LOW', refill with genuine JUKI sewing machine oil.

For specific oiling points not covered by the automatic system, consult a qualified technician or refer to detailed service manuals.
