Model: 28646Fr | Brand: Intex

Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your Intex Sand Filter Pump. Please read all instructions carefully before use to ensure proper functioning and to prevent injury or damage.

The Intex Sand Filter Pump is designed to provide superior water filtration for your swimming pool, ensuring clean and clear water. It features a robust design with a multi-functional valve for various operational modes.

Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when installing and using this electrical product. Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury or death. This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Ensure the pump is always connected to a grounded outlet. Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged. Keep children away from the pump and pool area during operation.

Components and Setup

Before beginning installation, ensure all components are present and undamaged. The main components include the sand filter tank, pump motor, 6-way valve, mini pre-filter, 3-position switch, integrated timer, and pressure gauge.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Positioning the Pump: Place the pump on a firm, level surface, ideally below the water level of the pool for optimal performance. Ensure it is protected from direct sunlight and adverse weather conditions.
  2. Adding Filter Sand: Remove the top cover of the filter tank. Carefully pour the recommended amount of filter sand (granulometry: 0.4 to 0.8 mm, capacity: 23 kg) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe is centered during this process.
  3. Attaching the 6-Way Valve: Securely attach the 6-way valve to the top of the filter tank. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  4. Connecting Hoses: Connect the pool's inlet and outlet hoses to the corresponding ports on the pump and valve. The pump includes 32 + 38 mm adapters for compatibility.
  5. Electrical Connection: Connect the pump to a grounded 240 Volts power outlet. Do not plug in the pump until all water connections are complete and the system is primed.

Operating Instructions

The 6-way valve allows for different operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.

6-Way Valve Functions:

  • FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water is pumped through the sand bed, filtered, and returned to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: Used for cleaning the sand bed. Water flows in reverse through the sand, dislodging trapped debris, and is discharged through the waste port.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to settle the sand bed and flush out any remaining dirty water from the valve before returning to FILTER mode.
  • WASTE/DRAIN: Bypasses the filter and pumps water directly out of the pool to waste. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
  • RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
  • CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Use this setting only when the pump is off and for maintenance.

Integrated Timer:

The integrated timer allows you to set automatic operating cycles for the pump. Refer to the specific timer instructions provided with your unit for detailed programming steps. Regular filtration is crucial for maintaining water quality.

Pressure Gauge:

The pressure gauge indicates the pressure inside the filter tank. A rising pressure indicates that the sand filter is becoming dirty and requires backwashing. Consult the manual for the normal operating pressure range for your specific model.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your sand filter pump.

  • Backwashing and Rinsing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reading is 5-10 PSI above the clean operating pressure, or when water flow significantly decreases. Always follow with a rinse cycle.
  • Sand Replacement: The filter sand should be changed approximately every 5 years, depending on usage and water quality.
  • Pre-filter Cleaning: Regularly inspect and clean the mini pre-filter basket to remove large debris and maintain optimal flow.
  • Winterization: Before winter, drain all water from the pump and filter. Store the unit in a dry, frost-free location.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter. For problems not listed here, contact customer support.

  • Low Water Flow: Check for clogged pre-filter basket, dirty sand filter (requires backwash), or obstructions in hoses. Ensure the pump is properly primed.
  • Pump Not Starting: Verify power connection, check circuit breaker/fuse. Ensure the 3-position switch is in the correct operating position.
  • Leaking Connections: Tighten all hose clamps and connections. Inspect O-rings and gaskets for damage and replace if necessary.
  • Cloudy Pool Water: Ensure proper filtration time, check chemical balance of pool water, perform backwash if pressure is high, or consider replacing sand if it's old.
