The Presto 05813 Digital Stainless Steel Rice Cooker/Steamer is designed to simplify your cooking process, delivering perfectly cooked rice and steamed foods with ease. Setup and Initial Use

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and components from the box.
  2. Clean: Before first use, wash the removable nonstick pot, steaming basket, measuring scoop, and rice paddle in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the rice cooker base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
  3. Assemble: Place the clean, dry removable pot into the rice cooker base. Ensure it is seated properly.
  4. Position: Place the rice cooker on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from walls or cabinets to allow for proper ventilation.

Operating Instructions

Cooking Rice (White or Brown)

  1. Measure Rice: Use the provided measuring scoop to add the desired amount of rice to the removable pot. One scoop of uncooked rice typically yields two scoops of cooked rice.
  2. Add Water: Fill the pot with water up to the corresponding water fill line for the amount of rice added. For best results, refer to the water-to-rice ratio guidelines in your recipe or the markings inside the pot.
  3. Close Lid: Securely close the hinged cover.
  4. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
  5. Select Function:
    • For white rice, press the COOK/STEAM button. The indicator light will illuminate.
    • For brown rice, press the BROWN RICE button. The indicator light will illuminate.
  6. Cooking Process: The rice cooker will automatically adjust cooking time. Once cooking is complete, the unit will automatically switch to the WARM/CANCEL mode, and its indicator light will illuminate.
  7. Serve: Allow rice to rest in warm mode for 5-10 minutes after cooking for optimal texture. Use the provided rice paddle to fluff and serve.

Steaming Foods

The steaming basket allows you to steam vegetables, fish, or other foods while rice is cooking, or independently.

  1. Prepare Water: Add approximately 2-3 cups of water to the removable pot. Do not exceed the maximum water fill line.
  2. Place Food: Arrange food in the steaming basket. Do not overfill, ensuring steam can circulate.
  3. Insert Basket: Place the steaming basket into the removable pot.
  4. Close Lid: Securely close the hinged cover.
  5. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
  6. Start Steaming: Press the COOK/STEAM button.
  7. Monitor: Steaming times vary by food type. Monitor food for desired doneness.
  8. Serve: Once steaming is complete, press the WARM/CANCEL button to turn off the unit. Carefully remove the steaming basket using oven mitts, as steam will be hot.
