1. Introduction

The Wrights Simplicity Deluxe Bias and Piping Machine is designed to simplify the creation of custom bias tape and piping cord. 2. Safety Instructions

• Always unplug the machine from the power outlet when not in use, before cleaning, or when changing accessories.

4. Setup

4.1 Initial Placement

Place the machine on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is enough space around the machine for fabric feeding and output.

4.2 Power Connection

Insert the electric cord plug into the designated port on the machine, then plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.

4.3 Attaching Accessories for Bias Tape

1. Select the desired bias tip (e.g., Single Fold Bias Tip) and slide it into the machine's opening until it clicks into place.
2. Place the Bias Tip Iron Cover over the heating element, ensuring it aligns with the selected bias tip.
3. If using, attach the Guide Bar to assist in feeding fabric evenly.

4.4 Attaching Accessories for Piping

1. Select the appropriate Piping Tip (e.g., 4/32 inch Piping Tip) and slide it into the machine's opening.
2. Place the corresponding Piping Cord Iron Cover (e.g., 4/32 inch Piping Cord Iron Cover) over the heating element.
3. Attach the Platform Holder and Platform Roller to support the piping cord.
4. Secure the Piping Guide and Piping Guide Holder to direct the fabric and cord.
5. Mount the Spindle to hold the piping cord spool.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Making Bias Tape

1. Prepare Fabric: Cut fabric strips on the bias (45-degree angle to the selvage) to the required width for your chosen bias tip. Ensure strips are joined with diagonal seams to reduce bulk. Press seams open.
2. Power On: Turn on the machine using the power switch. Allow a few minutes for the iron surface to heat up.
3. Insert Fabric: Feed the leading edge of your prepared bias strip into the bias tip opening. Use a stiletto or tweezers to guide it through until it emerges from the other side.
4. Start Feeding: Press the feed button. The machine will pull the fabric through the tip, folding and pressing it as it goes.
5. Adjust Speed: Use the speed control dial to adjust the feeding rate. A slower speed may be beneficial for delicate fabrics or when precise folding is required.
6. Collect Tape: As the bias tape exits the machine, gently guide it onto a flat surface or into a collection basket. Avoid pulling or stretching the tape.
7. Finish: Once all fabric has passed through, turn off the machine and unplug it. Allow the machine to cool before removing accessories.

5.2 Making Piping

1. Prepare Fabric and Cord: Cut fabric strips on the bias to the width specified for your piping tip and cord size. Join strips as needed. Place your piping cord spool onto the Spindle.
2. Power On: Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up.
3. Insert Components: Feed the piping cord through the Piping Guide and into the Piping Tip. Then, feed the prepared fabric strip into the Piping Tip, ensuring it wraps around the cord.
4. Start Feeding: Press the feed button. The machine will pull the fabric and cord, folding and pressing the fabric around the cord to create piping.
5. Adjust Speed: Use the speed control dial to maintain an even feed, especially important for consistent piping.
6. Collect Piping: Guide the finished piping as it exits the machine.
7. Finish: Turn off and unplug the machine after use. Allow to cool.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Ensure the machine is unplugged and completely cool before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For the Teflon-coated iron surface, gently wipe with a damp cloth if necessary, avoiding abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
• Storage: Store the machine and its accessories in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The original packaging can be used for storage.
• Accessory Care: Keep all tips and guides clean and free of fabric residue to ensure smooth operation.

7. Troubleshooting

• Machine Not Powering On:
  Solution: Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the machine and the electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is functional.
• Fabric Not Feeding Smoothly:
  Solution: Ensure fabric strips are cut accurately on the bias and seams are pressed flat. Reduce the feeding speed. Check for any fabric jams in the tip or guide.
• Bias Tape/Piping Not Folding Correctly:
  Solution: Verify that the correct tip and iron cover are installed for the desired function. Ensure the fabric width matches the tip size. Fabric may be too thick or too thin for the chosen tip.
• Iron Surface Not Heating:
  Solution: Confirm the machine is powered on and allowed sufficient time to heat. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
• Fabric Shifting or Tape Breaking (Piping):
  Solution: Ensure the piping cord and fabric are properly aligned and tensioned. Reduce the feeding speed. Check that the piping guide and holder are securely attached.
