VIQUA VH410 Ultraviolet Water System User Manual

Model: VH410

1. Introduction

The VIQUA VH410 Ultraviolet (UV) Water System is designed to provide safe and clean drinking water by inactivating harmful microorganisms. This system utilizes UV light waves to deactivate the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts, preventing their reproduction and ensuring water quality. It is a whole-home water treatment solution with a flow rate of 18 gallons per minute (GPM).

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your VIQUA VH410 system. Please read all instructions carefully before proceeding.

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the effective operation of your UV system. It is recommended to install the system vertically to facilitate future maintenance.

  1. Pre-filtration: Ensure that the water entering the UV system has adequate pre-filtration (e.g., a whole-house filter) to remove sediment and particles that could shield microorganisms from UV light or foul the quartz sleeve.
  2. Mounting: Mount the UV chamber vertically to a sturdy surface using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure sufficient clearance above and below the unit for lamp and sleeve replacement.
  3. Plumbing Connections: Connect the water inlet and outlet to your plumbing system. The VH410 features 3/4 MNPT connections. Use appropriate plumbing fittings and sealants to prevent leaks.
  4. Electrical Connection: Connect the electronic ICE controller to the UV lamp. Plug the controller into a grounded 120V electrical outlet. The controller includes a lamp replacement timer.
  5. System Start-up: Slowly turn on the water supply to fill the UV chamber. Check for any leaks. Once filled, turn on the electrical power to the system. The controller display will show the remaining lamp life.

5. Operation

Once installed and powered, the VIQUA VH410 system operates continuously to disinfect your water. The electronic ICE controller monitors the lamp's operation and displays the remaining lamp life in days.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the continued effectiveness of your VIQUA VH410 system.

6.1. Annual Lamp Replacement

The UV lamp (model S410RL-HO) must be replaced annually, as its UV output diminishes over time, even if it appears to be working. The electronic controller will provide a countdown and an audible alarm when replacement is due.

  1. Disconnect power to the system.
  2. Shut off the water supply and relieve pressure from the system.
  3. Remove the safety cap and lamp plug.
  4. Carefully pull the old UV lamp out of the chamber.
  5. Insert the new genuine VIQUA S410RL-HO lamp.
  6. Reattach the lamp plug and safety cap.
  7. Restore water flow and power. Reset the lamp timer on the controller.

6.2. Quartz Sleeve Cleaning

The quartz sleeve (model QSO-410) should be cleaned every 3 months to prevent mineral buildup that can block UV light. Replace the sleeve (model QL-410 for lamp and sleeve kit) if it is scratched or damaged.

  1. Follow steps 1-3 for lamp replacement.
  2. Drain the UV chamber.
  3. Unthread the bottom cap of the UV chamber to access and remove the quartz sleeve.
  4. Clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth and a mild acid (e.g., vinegar or citric acid) to remove any deposits. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. Inspect the sleeve for cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.
  6. Reinsert the clean or new quartz sleeve and reassemble the system.
  7. Restore water flow and power.

7. Troubleshooting
