User Manual

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Rohl A4910 Thermostatic Shower Valve with Volume Control. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and longevity of your product.

Safety Information

Always turn off the main water supply before beginning any plumbing work. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks. If you are unsure about any installation steps, consult a qualified plumber. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and gloves, during installation.

Setup and Installation

The Rohl A4910 is a concealed thermostatic valve designed for shower systems. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance.

  • The valve features 1/2-turn service stops with screens for easy maintenance and flow control.
  • It includes a bottom outlet specifically for a tub spout.
  • A standard 3/4" nipple is required for plumbing from the bottom outlet (not supplied).
  • If PEX piping is utilized, it is recommended to oversize the supply line to 1" to maintain optimal flow.
  • The valve comes complete with a mud guard for protection during installation.
  • To complete the installation, you must order one of the following trim sets: A4909, A2909, A4709, A4809, or A4009.

The central brass thermostatic cartridge and the lower brass volume control cartridge are clearly visible. To the left and right of the thermostatic cartridge, two chrome-finished service stops are present. The valve body is metallic, and a portion of a white instruction or certification document is visible at the bottom.

Operating Instructions

The Rohl A4910 valve provides separate controls for water volume and temperature, allowing for precise adjustment of your shower experience.

  • Temperature Control: Rotate the temperature handle (typically the upper control) to adjust the water temperature. Turn towards the 'Hot' indicator for warmer water and towards the 'Cold' indicator for cooler water. The thermostatic element maintains a consistent temperature regardless of pressure fluctuations in the water supply.
  • Volume Control: Rotate the volume control handle (typically the lower control) to adjust the water flow rate. Turn clockwise to decrease flow and counter-clockwise to increase flow. This allows you to conserve water or achieve maximum flow as desired.

The valve has a flow rate of 16 GPM (gallons per minute) at 45 PSI (pounds per square inch), ensuring ample water delivery.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Rohl A4910 valve.

  • Cleaning: Clean the visible parts of the valve trim with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can damage the finish.
  • Service Stops: The 1/2-turn service stops can be used to isolate the valve for maintenance without shutting off the main water supply to the entire house. These stops also contain screens that should be periodically checked and cleaned if water flow is reduced.
  • Thermostatic Cartridge: If you experience inconsistent water temperature, the thermostatic cartridge may need cleaning or replacement. This typically requires professional assistance.

Refer to the following table for common issues and their potential solutions.
