Maintenance
Battery Replacement
It is recommended to replace the batteries annually or when the low battery indicator appears. Always use new, high-quality alkaline AA batteries.
Moisture Management
SentrySafe products offering fire protection have a proprietary insulation with high moisture content. The airtight seal for water resistance can also cause moisture to accumulate inside. To prevent this:
- Open your unit once every two weeks to allow for air circulation and reduce moisture accumulation.
- If storing delicate items such as jewelry with working parts, watches, stamps, or photos, place them in an air-tight container before storing them in the safe.
- Do NOT store pearls, computer disks, audio-visual cassettes, or photo negatives directly in this safe due to potential moisture damage.
Troubleshooting
Forgotten Code or Dead Batteries
If you forget your digital code or the batteries die, use the emergency keys provided to open the safe. The keyhole is located behind the slide-up digital keypad assembly.
Door Not Locking Properly
If the door does not lock securely, inspect the foam seal around the door frame. In some cases, a thick seal might interfere with the locking mechanism. Adjustment or replacement with a thinner fireproof version may be necessary. Ensure no obstructions are preventing the bolts from fully extending.
Strong Odor or High Humidity Inside
A strong odor or high humidity is common in fire-protected safes due to their insulation and airtight design. This is normal. To mitigate this, regularly air out the safe by opening it every two weeks. For sensitive items, always use airtight containers.
