Key Features:

  • UL Listed Breaker for safety and compliance.
  • Side-wired design for efficient wiring and reduced installation time.
  • Compatible with Siemens WMM and PAK Multi-Family Metering Lines.
  • 10 KAIC Rated for reliable interruption capacity.
  • Provides 10k to 100k AIC series rating flexibility.

Setup and Installation

Installation of the QS2225 breaker should only be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and standards.

  1. Power Disconnection: Before beginning any work, ensure that all power to the meter stack or panel where the breaker will be installed is completely disconnected and locked out. Verify with a voltage tester.
  2. Mounting: Install the QS2225 breaker into the designated slot within the Siemens WMM or PAK multi-family metering line enclosure. Ensure it is securely seated.
  3. Wire Preparation:

Figure 2: Close-up of the strip gauge and terminal area on the Siemens QS2225 breaker. This image highlights the "STRIP GUAGE" marking and the terminal opening, indicating where wires should be inserted and how much insulation to remove.

Refer to the strip gauge on the breaker (see Figure 2) to determine the correct length of insulation to remove from the #1-300kcmil CU-AL wires. The end of the stripped wire must be visible in the opening, and both stripped wires must not contact the internal barrier.

  4. Wire Connection: Insert the prepared wires into the terminals. The side-wired design allows for easier access.
  5. Torque Settings: Tighten the terminal screws to a torque of 250 lb-in. Use a calibrated torque wrench to ensure proper connection and prevent loose connections, which can lead to overheating. This breaker is designed for 75°C wire only.
  6. Verification: Double-check all connections for tightness and proper wire seating. Ensure no bare wire is exposed beyond the terminal opening except for the intended connection point.
  7. Enclosure Closure: Close and secure the enclosure cover.
  8. Power Restoration: Restore power to the meter stack or panel.

Operating Instructions

The Siemens QS2225 circuit breaker functions as a main disconnect and overcurrent protection device.

Close-up of Siemens QS2225 ON/OFF switch

Figure 3: Close-up of the ON/OFF switch on the Siemens QS2225 breaker. The switch is clearly labeled with "ON" and "OFF" positions, indicating the current state of the circuit breaker.

  • Turning ON: To energize the circuit, push the breaker handle firmly to the ON position (see Figure 3).
  • Turning OFF: To de-energize the circuit, push the breaker handle firmly to the OFF position (see Figure 3).
  • Tripped Breaker: If an overload or short circuit occurs, the breaker will automatically trip to an intermediate position between ON and OFF. To reset a tripped breaker, first push the handle completely to the OFF position, then push it to the ON position. If the breaker immediately trips again, do not attempt to reset it repeatedly. Investigate the cause of the trip.

Maintenance

The Siemens QS2225 breaker is designed for minimal maintenance. However, periodic inspection is recommended to ensure continued safe operation.

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the breaker for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections. Ensure the ON/OFF switch operates smoothly.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the breaker with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners. Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.
  • Professional Inspection: For any concerns regarding the breaker's performance or integrity, consult a qualified electrician.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Breaker trips immediately after being reset.Persistent overload or short circuit in the protected circuit.Do not repeatedly reset. Disconnect appliances or devices on the circuit and inspect wiring for faults. Consult a qualified electrician if the problem persists.
Breaker feels hot to the touch.Overload, loose connection, or internal fault.Immediately turn off power to the breaker. Check for overloads on the circuit. Inspect terminal connections for tightness (only by qualified personnel with power off). If the issue persists, replace the breaker.
Breaker does not stay in the ON position.Internal mechanical failure or continuous fault. The breaker may be faulty and requires replacement. Consult a qualified electrician.
