4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The controller operates on two 9V batteries. Ensure the batteries are new and correctly installed for reliable operation.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back or side of the controller.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert two fresh 9V alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Securely close the battery compartment cover to maintain the waterproof seal.
4.2 Mounting the Controller
Choose a suitable location for mounting the controller, ensuring it is easily accessible and protected from direct impact.
- Mark the desired mounting points on a wall or sturdy surface using the controller as a template.
- Drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
- Insert wall anchors if mounting into drywall or masonry.
- Secure the controller to the surface using the provided screws.
4.3 Wiring the Valves
The DDCWP-8-9V controller supports up to 8 irrigation stations. Each station requires a separate valve wire connection.
- Identify the common wire from your irrigation valves. Connect this common wire to the terminal labeled 'C' on the controller.
- Connect each individual valve wire to its corresponding station terminal (1 through 8). Ensure each wire is securely fastened.
- Verify all connections are tight and free from exposed wire to prevent short circuits.
5. Operating Instructions
The Toro DDCWP-8-9V features a clear LCD display and intuitive controls for programming your irrigation schedule.

5.1 Understanding the Controls
- Mode Dial: The large central dial allows you to select different operating modes and programming functions.
- LCD Display: Shows current time, day, program status, and programming values.
- +/ON Button: Increases values, turns on functions.
- -/OFF Button: Decreases values, turns off functions.
- PROG A,B,C Button: Selects between Program A, B, or C for scheduling.
- NEXT Button: Advances to the next setting or parameter during programming.
- DIAL Button: Confirms selections or enters specific programming sub-menus.
5.2 Setting Current Time and Date
- Turn the Mode Dial to 'SET TIME'.
- The year will flash. Use the '+' or '-' buttons to adjust the year. Press 'NEXT' to confirm.
- Repeat for month, day, and current time (hour and minute).
- Press 'NEXT' after setting the minute.
5.3 Programming Watering Schedules (Programs A, B, C)
The controller allows for up to three independent programs (A, B, C) to manage different watering needs.
- Turn the Mode Dial to 'MANUAL PROGRAMS'.
- Press the 'PROG A,B,C' button to select the desired program (A, B, or C).
- Set Start Times: Turn the Mode Dial to 'START TIMES'. Use '+' or '-' to set the first start time. Press 'NEXT' to set additional start times for the selected program.
- Set Run Times: Turn the Mode Dial to 'RUN TIMES'. Use '+' or '-' to set the watering duration for each station (1-8) within the selected program. Press 'NEXT' to move to the next station.
- Set Water Days: Turn the Mode Dial to 'WATER DAYS'. Use '+' or '-' to select specific days of the week, odd/even days, or interval watering. Press 'NEXT' to confirm.
- Once programming is complete, turn the Mode Dial to 'AUTO RUN' for automatic operation.
5.4 Manual Operation
To manually operate a station or all stations:
- Turn the Mode Dial to 'MANUAL'.
- Use the 'NEXT' button to select the desired station.
- Use the '+' or '-' buttons to set the manual run time.
- The selected station will begin watering immediately.
- To stop manual watering, turn the Mode Dial to 'OFF' or wait for the set time to expire.
5.5 Seasonal Adjustment
The seasonal adjustment feature allows you to globally increase or decrease watering durations for all programs without reprogramming individual stations.
- Turn the Mode Dial to 'SEASON ADJUST %'.
- Use the '+' or '-' buttons to adjust the percentage (e.g., 100% for normal, 50% for half, 150% for more).
- The controller will automatically apply this percentage to all programmed run times.
5.6 Turning the Controller Off
To completely stop all watering and programming, turn the Mode Dial to 'OFF'.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
Replace batteries annually or when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous operation. Follow the steps in Section 4.1.
6.2 Cleaning
