1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation and maintenance of the VIQUA QS-810 Replacement UV Quartz Sleeve. This component is designed for use with VIQUA Sterilight S8Q-PA and SSM-37 Series UV water treatment systems. Adhering to these instructions ensures optimal performance and longevity of your UV disinfection system.

The quartz sleeve is a critical component that protects the UV lamp from water while allowing UV light to pass through and disinfect the water. It is made of high-purity quartz, which is transparent to UV light.

2. Safety Precautions

  • Always disconnect power to the UV system before performing any maintenance or installation.
  • UV lamps and quartz sleeves are fragile. Handle with care to prevent breakage.
  • Avoid touching the quartz sleeve directly with bare hands. Oils from skin can leave residue that may affect UV light transmission. Use clean gloves or a soft cloth.
  • Ensure the system is depressurized and drained before opening.

3. Installation (Replacement)

The VIQUA QS-810 quartz sleeve is a replacement part. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Preparation: Turn off the water supply to the UV system and disconnect the power. Depressurize and drain the UV chamber.
  2. Remove Old Components: Carefully remove the old UV lamp and then the old quartz sleeve. Note the orientation of all components for correct reassembly.
  3. Inspect and Clean: Inspect the inside of the UV chamber for any debris. Clean the chamber if necessary.
  4. Install New Quartz Sleeve:
    • Handle the new quartz sleeve (QS-810) with clean gloves or a soft cloth to avoid fingerprints.
    • Gently slide the new quartz sleeve into the UV chamber. Ensure it is fully seated.
    • Install the provided O-rings (if included with your sleeve) onto the ends of the quartz sleeve, ensuring a watertight seal.
    • Secure the sleeve with the retaining nuts or caps, tightening them hand-tight only. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the sleeve or O-rings.
  5. Install UV Lamp: Insert the new UV lamp (S810RL, sold separately) into the quartz sleeve. Connect the lamp connector.
  6. System Restart: Restore water pressure to the system slowly and check for leaks. Once confirmed, reconnect power to the UV system.

Important: The accompanying UV lamp S810RL must be purchased separately and is not included with the quartz sleeve.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the quartz sleeve is crucial for the effective operation of your UV system.

5.1. Replacement Schedule

The VIQUA QS-810 quartz sleeve should be replaced every 24 months or as needed. Over time, mineral deposits and scaling can accumulate on the sleeve's surface, reducing the transmission of UV light and compromising disinfection effectiveness. Even if the sleeve appears clean, its UV transparency can degrade.

5.2. Cleaning

If the quartz sleeve is removed for lamp replacement and appears to have deposits but is not due for replacement, it can be cleaned. Use a soft cloth and a mild acid solution (such as vinegar or citric acid) to gently wipe away any mineral buildup. Rinse thoroughly with clean water before reinstallation. Ensure no cleaning residues remain on the sleeve.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Sleeve Does Not Fit: Verify that you have the correct replacement sleeve (QS-810) for your specific VIQUA UV system model (S8Q-PA or SSM-37 Series). Refer to your system's original manual or VIQUA's product compatibility charts.
  • Leaks After Installation:
    • Ensure O-rings are properly seated and not damaged.
    • Check that retaining nuts or caps are hand-tightened securely, but not overtightened. Overtightening can crack the sleeve or deform O-rings.
  • Reduced UV Performance: If the UV system indicates reduced performance after sleeve replacement, ensure the sleeve is clean and free of fingerprints or deposits. Confirm the UV lamp is correctly installed and functioning.
