  5. Power Connection: Plug the appliance into a suitable power outlet (230 Volts).
  6. Initial Rinse Cycle: Upon first power-on or after a long period of inactivity, the machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle. Place a container under the coffee spouts and steam wand. The machine will dispense hot water. Wait for the cycle to complete.
  7. Water Hardness Setting: It is recommended to set the water hardness according to your local water supply. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for this procedure, which helps optimize descaling intervals.

Operating the Machine

Making Espresso or Coffee:

  1. Turn On: Press the ON/OFF button. The machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle.
  2. Select Coffee Strength: Use the aroma selection dial to choose your desired coffee strength (from extra-mild to extra-strong).
  3. Select Coffee Quantity: Press the 1-cup or 2-cup button for a single or double espresso. The machine will grind the beans and brew the coffee.
  4. Adjust Grind Level: The integrated grinder has 13 adjustable levels. To change the grind setting, turn the grind adjustment dial inside the bean hopper only when the grinder is operating. Finer grind for stronger coffee, coarser for milder.
  5. Using Pre-ground Coffee: Open the pre-ground coffee funnel cover. Add one level scoop of pre-ground coffee. Press the pre-ground coffee button before selecting the 1-cup or 2-cup option. Do not add more than one scoop.

  2. Activate Steam: Press the steam button. The steam indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Froth Milk: Immerse the Cappuccino System (steam wand) into the milk. Turn the steam dial to dispense steam. Move the pitcher up and down to create froth.
  4. Stop Steam: Turn the steam dial to the OFF position and press the steam button again to exit steam mode.
  5. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately clean the steam wand with a damp cloth after use to prevent milk residue from drying.

Programmable Functions:

  • Eco Function: An energy-saving mode can be activated.
  • Coffee Temperature: Adjust the brewing temperature to your preference.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your De'Longhi Magnifica S ECAM21.110.B.

  1. Emptying Drip Tray and Grounds Container: The machine will indicate when the drip tray needs emptying or the grounds container is full. Remove, empty, and clean both components regularly.
  2. Cleaning the Brewing Unit: The brewing unit should be removed and rinsed under running water at least once a month. Ensure the unit is completely dry before reinserting.
  3. Cleaning the Water Tank: Rinse the water tank regularly and refill with fresh water.
  4. Descaling: The machine will prompt you when descaling is required. Use a De'Longhi descaler solution and follow the instructions provided in the full manual for the automatic descaling cycle. Regular descaling prevents limescale buildup and maintains efficiency.
  5. Water Filter: If a water filter is installed, replace it as indicated by the machine or every two months.
  6. Cleaning the Cappuccino System: After each use, wipe the steam wand. Periodically, disassemble and clean the components of the Cappuccino System thoroughly.
