1. Introduction
The Denon AVR-1712 is a 7.1 channel A/V Surround Receiver designed to provide high-quality audio and video processing for home theater systems. This receiver supports 3D video signals and offers powerful surround sound capabilities. It is equipped with a Setup Wizard to guide users through initial configuration, simplifying the process of connecting speakers and other components.
2. Package Contents
Before beginning setup, ensure all items are present in the package:

3. Connections
Proper connection of your audio and video components is crucial for optimal performance. Refer to the rear panel diagram for connection points.

3.1 HDMI Connections
The AVR-1712 features six HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. Connect your high-definition devices such as Blu-ray players, game consoles, and set-top boxes to the HDMI inputs. Connect the HDMI output to your television or projector. HDMI v1.4a supports 3D pass-through and Audio Return Channel (ARC).
3.2 Speaker Connections
Connect your speakers to the corresponding terminals on the rear panel. The receiver supports a 7.1 channel configuration. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for all speaker connections. The Audyssey MultEQ system will assist in calibrating speaker levels and distances during initial setup.
3.3 Antenna Connections
Connect the supplied AM loop antenna and FM indoor antenna to their respective terminals for radio reception.
3.4 Portable Audio Device Connectivity
A front-side stereo mini jack allows for audio playback from portable audio players. Additionally, the receiver can be used with the Denon Networked Control Dock (sold separately) for iPod/iPhone integration.
4. Initial Setup
The AVR-1712 includes a Setup Wizard to simplify the initial configuration process.
4.1 Setup Wizard
Upon first power-on, the Setup Wizard will appear on your connected TV screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure:
- Language settings
- Speaker connections and configuration
- Input assignments
- Network settings (if applicable with optional accessories)
4.2 Audyssey MultEQ Calibration
The Audyssey MultEQ system automatically measures sound levels and adjusts speaker configuration to optimize the acoustic profile of your listening environment. Connect the supplied setup microphone to the front panel jack and follow the on-screen prompts from the Setup Wizard to perform the calibration.

6.1 Front Panel Controls
The front panel includes a master volume control, input selector buttons, and Quick Select buttons. The Quick Select buttons allow for effortless selection of video and music sources.
6.2 Remote Control
The supplied remote control provides comprehensive control over the receiver's functions. Familiarize yourself with the button layout for efficient operation.
6.3 Graphical User Interface (GUI)
The on-screen display (GUI) provides quick information about your system's settings and facilitates navigation through menus. The GUI overlays on HD sources for seamless adjustments.
